I know who the Chair for the DNC is; we hear from him almost every day, that creep from hell. The last Chair of the RNC that I can remember was Haley Barbour. I liked him a lot. But I never hear a peep out of the RNC. I suppose I could do a search ("AskJeeves.com") but WHY IS IT THAT I DON'T KNOW?!! Why isn't he/she on TV every day screaming at the top of his/her lungs about every issue near and dear to our hearts? Huh?! Terry McC is ubiquitous, for Goodness' sake. This is infuriating.
Why, that would be The Invisible Racicot!
Governor Marc Racicot
Chairman, Republican National Committee
|
Paging Newt Gingrich...;-)
Haley Barbour was great on tv, which was a godsend for the Party, but the real reason he was ubiquitous was that in '93 and '94, the dems controlled everything. The Party Chairman becomes top dog only when you ain't got elected top dogs as go-to guys. Haley became much less visible in '95 and '96 because we took Congress and Gingrich and Dole became the spokesmen. Jim Nicholson was an effective Chairman too (though not Haley's equal on tv -- few are), but he was always in the background behind the congressional leaders. Similarly, only the political junkies knew who the DNC Chairman was when Clinton was in the White House.
Racicot is a good guy, but he's also a puppet on a string. Comes with the territory. Under the circumstances, his job is to raise money and otherwise stick to his White House talking points.
Now, since we have seen McAuliffe on several shows by himself, and since the hosts have NEVER said "The GOP Chairman declined to appear," I must conclude that they are following the same strategy as with their invitations to members of the House and Senate. They only invite the ineffective speakers and McCain.
I would like to see Racicot on the air more, but I think it is going to be hard to accomplish unless we run our own info-mercials.
Well, of course he is! Remember, Republicans see spinelessness as the defining characteristic of their party.
Lee Atwater, where are you, now that we need you?!
Lee Atwater, where are you, now that we need you?!
Regards, Ivan
When a party holds the presidency, the president does the talking for the party. When it doesn't, the head of the national committee does the talking for the party. Barbour talked for Republicans when Clinton was president. McAuliffe talks for Democrats when Bush is president.
By the way, Haley Barbour hasn't been chairman since 1996. Since then there has been Jim Nicholson, Jim Gilmore, and now Marc Racicot.
Good question as there has been several articles posted here on FR over the past few months.....

It is not altogether clear what accomplishments they are celebrating. In the past year, Senator Daschle has a job performance rating of 23.8 percent.
