Why won't Racicot run? (Pickering loss shows need to retake Senate, but Racicot won't help)

The Dems defeated Pickering. They'll keep kicking sand in GOP faces until the GOP retakes the Senate. Yet GOP chair Marc Racicot - who could run a strong race against the incumbent Dem Senator in MT - - refuses to do so. IF YOU'RE ONE OF THE FREEPERS WHO MAKES EXCUSES FOR THIS WEENIE, STOP CRITIZING DASCHLE AND THE OTHER SENATE DEMS - YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. (and of course, neither does Racicot).

Racicot says he has to earn big bucks as a lobbyist. (150k as a senator isn't enough for him). Well fine, if that's his choice - versus helping to oust Daschle and the Dem leadership - - let him step down as GOP Chair, because he's shown where his priorities lie.

The people wasting time rehashing the Pickering thing on other threads should instead be e-mailing Racicot DEMANDING THAT HE RUN FOR THE SENATE - OR STEP DOWN AS PARTY CHAIR BECAUSE HE's SHOWN HIS PRIORITIES AREN'T WITH THE PARTY.

From January 18 Helen Dewar (Washington Post) article on Senate races this fall:

Under one scenario, each party could pick up a seat or two, and Democrats could wind up keeping control of the Senate if Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), whom Republicans regard as one of the Democrats' most vulnerable incumbents, wins reelection. With Racicot opting to chair the Republican National Committee rather than run for the Senate, state Sen. Mike Taylor is now the most likely GOP candidate.

HEAR THAT, FREEPERS - - RACICOT'S DECISION NOT TO RUN COULD BY ITSELF KEEP THE SENATE IN DEM HANDS!!!!!!!!

Why do so few of you care? WHY DOESN'T RACICOT CARE?

Maybe because campaigning sucks and nobody with any sense would do it. Or maybe he doesn't think he'd have as good a shot as you think. I've got a question: why don't you run?

Better yet, why didn't Bush pressure Rasicot to run? Bush is proving to be even more pusillanimous than his father.

What a question. If I were a former governor of MT with an estimated 70 percent approval rate, I'd run in an instant - because the GOP needs to take back the Senate. Racicot has the ability to run and win (unlike me, duh) so if he cares about the future of the country - and the fate of Pickering and future Pickerings - I think he has a duty to run.

Stu Rothenberg in ROLL CALL, January 8:

"In Montana, the top three Republican challengers to Sen. Max Baucus (D)would be former Gov. Mark Racicot, Mark Racicot and Mark Racicot. If none of them runs, look for the party to make a desperate, last-ditch effort to get Mark Racicot to run. Get the picture? Racicot's already bigger-than-life reputation grew even larger this week when a Billings Gazette poll showed him leading Baucus by 19 points in a hypothetical matchup."

It simply amazes me how few Freepers care about prodding Racicot to run. They'd rather gripe about Daschle than do anything about Daschle. Like old men at the nursing home, they love to complain - and maybe, down deep, don't want the target of their complaining removed.

It's a perfectly fair question. Here you are arguing with yourself (see how nice I am, I gave you somebody else to post to) demanding somebody do something you won't. According to you any excuse on his part is lame and unacceptable. Well according to me the knife cuts both ways. Get out there and start campaigning. Put up or shut up, your keyboard wrote the check, time for your butt to cash it.

On the other side have you checked the rules in his state? Has th deadline passed? Is it even possible for him to run?

There are different qualifications and skills required for these two positions. One requires you to spend months in DC Hell each year for 6 years.Without term limits and with DC so thoroughly infested with career socialist elites and their press pals...a non-leftist needs to be seriously concerned with his spiritual and physical well-being. If he has kids...forget it. Fess up, you're from DU, right?

Well, Racicot's record isn't that great, but the number one priority should be to oust Dictator Daschle from power.

If Racicot is the only Republican in Montana who could win, then it's a Democrat state.

I don't know why you keep harping on this. It's not going to happen.

Right - I'm a Democrat who wants the Democrats to lose the Senate. In fact, Racicot may be the most popular Republican with DU types, because he refuses to run against one of their most vulnerable incumbents. If I WERE a Democrat, I'd be cheering over Racicot's decision - as I'm sure Daschle secretly is. Daschle jokes that he mows Jeffords' lawn. Well, he it to Racicot to wash Racicot's car in gratitude for Racicot's decision not to run for Senate. By choosing not to run, RACICOT'S HELPING THE DEMS almost as much as Jeffords!!!

I'm not the only one "harping" on it. Novak, National Review and other knowledgable conservatives want to know why Racicot won't help reclaim the Senate for the GOP.

Seems the only folks who don't care are the freepers who scoff at me. Apparently these are people who are quite content having Daschle as head of the Senate.

So. That doesn't answer the question. What gives you the right to demand others do what you won't? Get campaigning. you don't have to start with a senate run, but every GOP in an elected position helps. Start with dog catcher or something.
