If Thompson can change his mind and not run, why can't Racicot change HIS mind and run (in MT?)

Fred Thompson bowing out will make it harder for the GOP to recapture the Senate. All the more reason for Racicot to run against Baucus, the Dem incumbent, in Montana. When he's on his death bed, which would make Racicot prouder - that he earned $1 mill-plus as a lobbyist, or that he helped regain the Senate so that God-fearing nominees would be approved for the Supreme Court and the lower courts?

My understanding was that he had kids going into college and he had left public office for more lucrative emplyment during those expensive times. I'm sure he would reconsider if you would fund his Senate race outright.

Senate campaigns against incumbents are big financial battles to formulate. Its my impression that Republican money in Montana, while there, is not amply available.

I think that you need to ask the Montana Party cadre about this, not Marc.

I still don't understand why Racicot - who refuses to help the GOP take back the Senate - thereby becomes qualified to be named GOP national chairman. In may book, refusing to help the team win the game as a player isn't a good qualification for being named coach.

Right, a $150,000 per year Senate salary just isn't big enough for him. I sure am glad we've had some leaders in our history who were willing to make sacrifices for the greater good rather than put the dollar above all else.

Everybody who's making excuses for Racicot should shut up when it comes to criticizing Daschle or the ill-treatment of Bush's judicial nominees, because Racicot won't run and change that situation in the Senate.

What's so bad about Baucus? Other than the 'D' next to his name?

What's so bad about Baucus? """

Racicot must agree with you - since he's unwilling to run against Baucus in what would be a slam-dunk victory for the GOP.

What's so bad about Baucus? Nothing, if you don't mind having as leader of the Senate, Daschle - whom Baucus votes for. Sure wish Racicot had as much of a problem with having Daschle in charge as I do.

I'm gonna keep bumping until I get some Freepers interested in this subject. Everybody's bummed about Pickering getting nixed by the Dem Senate - - - but for some reason nobody's upset that Racicot refuses to run and make it a GOP Senate. If the Dems keep control - and keep rejecting Bush nominees - - don't complain unless you're willing to complain about Racicot's refusal to run.

Let me put it plainly. Racicot is a rascal if he won't help us regain the Senate.

"Fred Thompson bowing out will make it harder for the GOP to recapture the Senate."

But far easier to accomplish something worthwhile when they do succeed, without Thompson arguing for compromise, regardless of the issue.

"What's so bad about Baucus?"

He has a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 13%, same as Little Tommy Dashhole. Even RAT Jeffords has a rating of 27%. Runs like a conservative, then votes like Ted Kennedy after they give him six more years.
