According to Dave Campbell of ESPNNews, Kile's father died at age 44 due to a ruptured blood vessel in the brain.

So far you're about zero for ten on this thead. Perhaps you should have canceled your game.
So far you've got none.

What happened then?
They werent sure what to do with the body so they called so9 for advice. He told them to put the guy on the back of the bus with sunglasses on so's no one would trip over him while boarding the bus after the game was completed....

ServantoftheNine is your FATHER!!?? I'm an agnostic, but if there is a God, I don't think he would be THAT cruel. I'd rather have Darth Vader as a father. At least he had a touch of humanity left inside. And he kicked ass with that Force business. I'd love to be able to choke people with my mind. But best that I don't have that power, I think. Not that I know of, anyway.

The Cards were my favorite team when I was a kid. The first words I could read in a newspaper were "Stan Musial." I never learned to spell "Red" Schendiencks. On my ninth birthday my parents took me to see the Cardinals and "The Man" play in Beaumont. That was decades ago. During Spring training the teams traveled around and played their minor league teams.
My dad went to the World Series in St. Louis in the late 40's when they played the Red Sox.
Am I correct recalling that Kile pitched for the Astros?
i think serv. of 9 is actually marge schott

'I'd rather have Darth Vader as a father. '
Yes, Darth was a sweetheart, compared to this guy. He had a lot more family feeling, if you recall.

ESPNNews is now reporting that the SL Cardinal's press conference was delayed and will begin at approximately 5pm ET, only a few minutes from now. I'm guessing ESPNNews will carry it live.
Tragic. Prayers in offering.

Hank Gathers played for Loyola Marymount and collapsed during the first half of a conference post-season tournament game. He died an hour and a half later at the hospital. They ended up cancelling the tournament. His teammates voted to go ahead and play THE NEXT WEEK in the NCAA tournament as a way of honoring Hank, where they went on a memorable emotional winning streak.
I think it is the sorry scum like So9 that give the liberals and media the ammunition to falsely portray most conservatives as cold and heartless. He, and similar idiots like David Duke, as much as anything else keep the GOP from becoming the dominant party. A handful of stupid words can trump a slew of rational education when it comes to public image. What a dolt.

I'm just saying that So9's opinion is not all that different than alot of buisness manager's and exec's. Unless the business has 25 employees who travel from town to town six months of the year, eat with each other and spend most waking hours together, your comparison of a business to a ball team is inapt.
We had an employee die of a heart attack in an IBM office back in 1983 in the early afternoon. The branch manager didn't send anybody home, but there wasn't a lick of work done for the rest of the day, either.

Sounds like an undiagnosed heart problem. Perhaps, familial hypercholesterolemia? Kile's father died at age 44 due to a ruptured blood vessel in the brain.
This is the kind of thing I'm thinking. When I heard the news about Kile, the first thing I thought was about my father, who died of a heart attack at age 34.
Kile had off-season surgery, so you wonder about a lingering blood clot or aneurysm that was not detected. One rumor that I've come across here in St. Louis is an allergic reaction to a spider bite.
We'll know shortly, I guess. A press conference is scheduled to start momentarily. KMOX Radio here in St. Louis has ongoing live coverage.

I have a gardening web siteCool! Gonna check it out!

ReallY? So a CEO of a large corporation has the luxury of saying, "O.K. everybody back to work", but a small buisness owner has the moral responsibility to send everyone home for the day?
To: dennis1x
Condolences to the Kile family, the Cards and their fans from a lifelong Red Sox fan.
P.S. - Condolences to the family of Servant of the Nine. They have to live with him.

I'm glued to the radio right now here in St. Louis. For those who want to keep up on this story, you might check out kmox.com, stltoday.com, or mlb.com.
St. Louis is in shock.
To: lonestar
Yep, he pitched for the Astros, who've had more than there share of players encounter tragedies.

ReallY? So a CEO of a large corporation has the luxury of saying, "O.K. everybody back to work", but a small buisness owner has the moral responsibility to send everyone home for the day? A business is in no way comparable to a tightly-knit baseball team. OTOH, a smart executive in a small business WOULD send employees home out of respect.
There are as*holes in every walk of life, of course, who would probably dock a dead guy's last check a half day if he died at lunch.

News conference delayed again, for approximately 10 minutes until 5:10pm ET. ESPNews reports information coming to them in fits and spurts. They look pretty grim on the TV screen.
To: metesky
From one Red Sox fan to another. ..We know about misery ...and I really doubt anyone would actually live with that dolt (So9).
