The New York Yankees didn't play the day that Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash. The Yanks didn't have a gane that day which is why Munson was practicing touch and gos. They did play their very next scheduled game.
Weird.
Brings back memories of "The Natural", and the sad cases of Don Wilson's death and JR Richards' stroke.

Yikes. I see that you are getting thouroughly trashed on this thread. In your defense, I will say that I have been in a situation where I was at work when it was announced that a co-worker had died. We were not sent home, and work was not cancelled for the day.
For what it's worth.

Actually, come to think of it, what happened when that young basketball player had a heart attack (or some such thing) during the game. Died right on the spot before he was removed from the court. What happened then? I'm not familiar with that story. Perhaps someone else on the board knows the answer to that.

Show some sense of decorum or sense. Not the time, nor the place. Yes Massa

Maybe you are right. All I remember is that the Yankees didn't play that day.

Scheduled to pitch tomorrow, which on the Cardinals means he was scheduled to pitch batting practice today.

I'll second that.
It's unfair to jump to the conclusion that illicit drug use was involved. Sounds like an undiagnosed heart problem. Perhaps, familial hypercholesterolemia?

My hobby is to send old cards through the mail for signatures. Sometimes the old timers write me back when returning the cards. Tell more.
Who all you got?
Did you get Pumpsie Green? When I was a kid, 3 out of 4 bubble gum packs had Pumpsie.

Len Bias died on the court. The remainder of the game was postponed, of course.

Very creative.
I may steal that one.

When I arrived at the hospital that fateful January day in 1993, I started weeping when the doctor came into the waiting room to tell me my mom had died. My father pulled my hands from my face. I'll never forgive him for that.
I'm a man, I'm a Republican, and I do cry when the spirit moves me. And I am not ashamed in the least of that fact. The real men are the ones who are not afraid to be who they are. Toughness takes many forms.
Upshot: I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with them postponing the game. Humanity trumps everything else in life, except war, when taking a day off may mean more death.

He died after the draft celebrating with friends.

Kile and his wife, Flynn, have 5-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, and a son who was born last August.
Damn, that is just too hard to read without getting emotional...

Len Bias died on the court. I think Len Bias was the Celtics draft pick from the University of Maryland who died of a cocaine overdose. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Reggie Lewis died on the court, but I don't think it was during a game. Hank Gathers, a college player, I believe died during a game.

'My father pulled my hands from my face. '
ServantoftheNine is your FATHER!!??

Amen....if somebody in his family dies and he posts on FR, let's make fun of him and call his family member names. I wonder how he would like it.......

Upshot: I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with them postponing the game. Me either. I'm just saying that So9's opinion is not all that different than alot of buisness manager's and exec's.
To: lawyamike
You are thinking of Hank Gathers.... Len Bias OD'd on cocaine after being drafted by the Celtics.
