Well I gotta tell you moron that I am a soldier and being a professional soldier is not the same as professional baseball....baseball is a game, its not life or death. If you can't figure that out then you needs a regimen of psychiatric help.

Congratulations, you've probably just moved yourself up to first on the list of those who'll be visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Bitter that they interrupted your soap operas on 9/11/01?

As I mentioned earlier, that's essentially what Marge Schott wanted to do when an umpire died at a game.

Actually, come to think of it, what happened when that young basketball player had a heart attack (or some such thing) during the game. Died right on the spot before he was removed from the court. What happened then?

My town has the lowest level minor league team of the Cards (Johnson City, Tennessee) and I basically hate pro sports. But minor league baseball is wonderful to watch. Watching these talented kids busting ass for a chance to move up.

They play the beautiful game as it should be played.

Dead at 29 sucks, no matter what the cause.

So, they didn't have a baseball game because someone on one of the teams died and you gripe about that? Were YOU even going to watch the game?

I'd call you an a$$wipe but that would be a personal attack. So, instead, I'll just make note of the kind of little person you are.

I think you're referring to Hank Gathers, for Loyola-Marymount College. I don't recall what they did in his case, but I remember his best friend on the team (whose name escapes me) shot his first free throw of every game with his non-dominant shooting hand for the rest of the season. And if I recall, he made every single one of them. They made a movie about it, called, appropriately, "The Hank Gathers Story".

Reggie Lewis, for the Boston Celtics, died of a heart condition as well, but I believe that was during a practice session.

The New York Yankees didn't play the day that Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash. I think it was in August 1979. I think playing a game just hours after a player's sudden death is not a good idea.

The old time ballplayers are even more sensitive to things like death. These men played for the love of the game because they often didn't get paid much and had to work in the off season. My hobby is to send old cards through the mail for signatures. Sometimes the old timers write me back when returning the cards. They epitomize the great generations of our country. To say they would not appreciate and mourn a dead comrade is plain stupid. The game was rough and tough at times, but that's ridiculous.

So many of us wanted to be ballplayers as little boys, that there's an incredible sadness attached to a loss like this. In 1993, Dodger announcer and former pitcher Don Drysdale was found dead in his hotel room, leaving Vin Scully to call the game with Montreal alone from start to finish. It had to be the most horrible thing, but the game was played. This was an announcer's death after all.

Sympathies from this forty year Braves' fan.

Show some sense of decorum or sense. Not the time, nor the place.
