The New York Yankees didn't play the day that Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash. I think it was in August 1979. I think playing a game just hours after a player's sudden death is not a good idea.

The Yanks didn't have a gane that day which is why Munson was practicing touch and gos. They did play their very next scheduled game.

I'm pretty sure Thurman died on a Thursday. Their next game was on a Friday night. In one of our Thurman books, it says they asked his wife and she said he'd want them to go on and play. However, it also quoted some of the players who said how much it took out of the team and how difficult it was to go on.
