I use Abiword which can import Microsoft Word (modified RTF) documents and can save to RTF format which can be used by Midrosoft Word.

I know it looks bad, but could I say something in Gates' defense?
He never has been a political animal. He didn't contribute much to either party and the US Govt rolled him on behalf of his competitors.
My guess is that he hasn't given much to ActionJackson either in years gone by. But now he's been bitten by the sharks, and another one is circling. I sorta feel sorry for him.

FYI, please see post #80. I saw it. I know. But Gates mostly strikes me as an apolitical person. Certainly we all knew who he was in 1990, and he was an adult then. Did he make any regretable statements back then? Most of us who are 50 years old or so haven't changed much politically in the past ten years. People don't "come out" at 40. When contradictions exist, examine your premises.

I had an OS/2 desktop and a Win laptop. Loved the OS/2, hated the Win. So, when the OS/2 conked out, I bought an iMac.
If I wanted to build my own, I would choose OS/2 or Linux. But if I want to "plug and play", I'm sticking with the Mac. Win just gets more annoying.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could just call the computer shop and ask for a machine with the OS we wanted??

It's not just an inferior operating system. (Try using a program written under OS9x or earlier when you've upgraded your computer to OSX. To use the older program, you have to have BOTH operating systems at once! When you start the older program, OS9 has to start up. Guess how much of your resources are being used when you are running TWO operating systems!) Mac products are WAY more expensive, and there are WAY fewer applications available. (So far, that applies even to Linux and the alternative operating systems, right?) Also, Mac monitors are ALL going LCD, aren't they? Expensive, and imagine what happens to your display when your kid, someone else's kid, or some accident pokes a hole in your screen. (It happens-- schools face that problem.)
When a part on your MacIntosh goes bad, you might as well plan on sending it to the Mac-man. My son can replace any part on my PC himself. We don't have to pay a serviceman. I don't have to be without my computer for more tha
I've worked for 8 years now with a PC at home and Macs at work (desktop, laptop, IMac, etc.). There is NOTHING to match a Mac freeze-up-- nothing. I have never lost all of my work on when I had a PC freeze. I have to use all my fingers and toes to tell you about the co-workers and students who have lost everything during a Mac freeze-up. Since I loaded XP on my computer in December, I haven't had a single freeze-up. You want to switch to a Mac? Sayonara.

Oops! That should read "any more than a day." (That was the longest reply I've ever made at FR.)

"By the way..I am disgusted by Jesse Jackson, but I have to see more than a few photos with Gates before I decide to suffer with an inferior operating system."
Inferior, my hindquarters.
Well, how many "superior" products do you know that cannot compete in a free marketplace?
Microsoft dominates because the public loves it, and has voted with it's pocketbook.
Anyhow, that aside, what would it take to convince you? That he gives money to Planned Parenthood?
Or that he contributed to a group that (successfully) opposed a tax rollback?
Or that he gave money to a group that tried to register all gun owners in Washington state?
Just what would it take to convince you?
Convince me of what?
I come from a family that is mostly Democrat and supports a lot of things I disagree with.
Perhaps I should turn my back on them, and boycott my 81 year old mother.
In any case, I don't buy Microsoft products for political reasons..I buy them because I think they are the best.

Thru with Microsoft? I thought you always despised MS and were a MAC supporter/promoter. Guess I must have missed the switch, eh?
