Enough of the WHINING!!!!!

Enough of the whining. No more individuals who feel the need to make an Opus. No more "If I can't have the old forum...(whatever)." If you feel the need to make a criticism, make it. But, don't throw out all the good new stuff in the process. I sincerely believe that legitimate criticism and suggestions are being listened to and acted upon. Let's make the new forum format better than the old one and not just piss and moan.

I made these suggestions earlier today. Feel free to make your own, but DO NOT do any more whining. My eardrums are perforated already.

My suggestions:

1. Allow viewing of all latest posts across different forums to be an option.

2. Reinstate the small search window that used to be at the top.

3. Allow users to hide the left and right frames, perhaps with a button at the top of each. This will give those with lower screen resolution the option to have more text visible.

4. Allow choosing of right sidebar content directly from the topics screen.

I would suggest that everyone take two weeks to use the site. Then after that two weeks open up a thread for criticism of the new format.

At this point there is no way to determine what is whining due to change-averse people and what is whining due to real issues.

Regardless, until people spend a couple of weeks navigating the system and provide enough time to change habits the criticism is fairly useless.

Speaking of wine I think I'll go have a glass and it'll loosen me up to figure out the new format. After a couple of days things will look better.

The whining, however, is always useless.

I agree with the whining. If I had wanted to be subjected to this I could have just worked this weekend.

Feel free to freep mail me. If I can help broaden your navigation acumen, I will be glad to share what I've learned. And I will be glad to learn what I don't know.

Go over to the side bar and find opinions and questions. There is a brand new Jim Robinson thread. Oh wait if you don't have that on the side bar you will miss it. I suggest everyone add Opinions and questions to your side bar it is great for quick answers and lots of those great Freeper opinions. Like this one

FREE Non Surgical Face Lift in a Bottle! email | March 30, 2002 | unkown Posted on 3/30/02 7:20 PM Eastern by Jim Robinson Just got home a little while ago and have been trying to catch up on reading all the complaints about our new face lift. Well, this particular email caught my eye and thought I'd post it to see if we can lighten up the atmosphere just a bit (I got a chuckle out of it anyway).

Then take the time to spell out what you don't like, and what you would like to see. Is that too hard for you?

Agreed. Having posted suggestions and firm criticism in several threads, I've already seen changes, and I thank Jim and all those involved who are willing to listen and do the HARD WORK to make the changes. The faded flag in the left sidebar is already gone (yeah!), the breaking news and other topics sidebars have been increased from 5 to what, about 25? Thats just GREAT! Hope to see the whole left sidebar go as well :)

Why are people who have negative comments and reactions....and even those who post comments re: their dislike of the format changes, labeled as 'whiners'? Isn't this a bit like labeling a person who dislikes another person of a certain ethnic background a racist? You ignore the REASONS for the dislike and tar the person with the pejorative broad brush?

Isn't this type of labeling the very THING that keeps us from discussing, rationally, our REASONS for the dislike?

My 2cents

This is not user friendly, and not Eye friendly....

The Blue ink is hard on the eyes.....
honest ,,,, when you look at it first it looks a like MAZE........... the whole idea of a SITE is to make it USER friendly and not Computer Nerd Friendly.

Thanks TBLSHOW.

From Jim Robinson:

By the way, we will be working over the weekend and the next few days, to try to make the new FR face lift a little less shocking. It will all be back to (almost) normal soon. Hang in there.

Have received thousands of comments, emails and FRmail complaints and compliments today (running about 10 to 1 in the complaint department). Will not be able to answer all (or even most), but we will do what we can to make things better.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks Jim.

Most of them are complaining, rather than learning. That makes them whiners.

If it ain't broke, why fix it.

I hate change. If this is how it is to be, then I will either have to adjust or move on.

Sorry. I am not whining. I loved the old Free Republic. When I have to "fight" to find something, or post something, I usually throw my hands in the air, and go on down the street. Sorry, this my opinion.

No disrespect to you, but at every site I have ever been to that has picked up new engineers with all new ideas, then the change happens overnight.......the load times are longer.....nothing is comfortable anymore.

Sorry for the rant, but Free Republic meant a lot to me. I'd just hate to lose it.

Exactly who are you to be issuing orders about how someone expresses their opinion here? Just curious.

Just tell me what the NEW STUFF means in terms of the OLD STUFF and I'll be happy.

No doubt there are plenty of new ideas in there, and improved ways of looking at things, but all I want are the new stories posted sequentially by date and quick access to whatever anybody else might be saying to my posts.

Otherwise, most of the features, new or old, don't have much interest for me.
