Why can't you make Free Republic a pay-per-use website? I think it's worth at least $10.00 a month. Not to offensive, and gets people paying.

Studies have shown that that doesn't work too well, historically anyway.

I think it's worth at least $10.00 a month. I'd be willing to pay more...Hell, AOL charges me 20 bucks a month!

Might weed out the disruptors too.

We're the American Street, the Greek Chorus, and the Grassroots wrapped into one. It's a wonderful site.

Why can't you make Free Republic a pay-per-use website?Well, it can't become a for-profit website, because reposting other publications' stories for profit is stealing, not research.

I'd be up for that. Haven't been here long, but it's obvious FR is an *excellent* resource & forum.
Thank you, Jim & John! Please expect some mail around Christmas. :)

"Why can't you make Free Republic a pay-per-use website?" I agree. Donations are too sporadic. Jim needs a reliable source of monthly income to keep this place running. Where do I sign up?
To: DCBryan1
I think that's reasonable.Works for me.
To: DCBryan1
I too would gladly pay $10/month to keep it going. Probably would pay up to $15/month. MAYBE $20.

Why can't you make Free Republic a pay-per-use website?Sounds like a great idea. Or why not have a monthly fee, as others have suggested?
And Jim, please don't go away, not with Hillary waiting very impatiently in the wings. That's too scary for words, without the thought of FR here to help out. Think what that would be like...
To: DCBryan1
I donate 10 bucks a month via credit card and never even notice it. I also contribute to the Freepathons. I can obtain the same news I receive from Free Republic by going to many different sites. There is no site on the web where the news is reported and then dissected in detail as is here on Free Republic.
You may or may not agree with what is reported and dissected but it does get reported and debated as opposed to the news media.
Is it time for Free Republic to go away? HELL NO.

I am a small monthly donor and can say that no one will miss 10 or 20 per month to keep an honest and open forum up and running.

Not to offensive, and gets people paying.More and more websites are becoming payment/membership oriented. You register, and have to be paid up in order to log on (usually with a card "on file" which the host debits every month), or you pay for the year and get a discount off the monthly rate. I think that would work here, too, and cut down on the rate of "disuptors" as well.

"Why can't you make Free Republic a pay-per-use website? " If he did that it would cease to be the same site it is now.
To: DCBryan1
a subscription seems reasonable

I think that is an excellent idea. I would not object one bit to paying the fee. I get much more enjoyment than $10 per month. It would also increase your revenue, while decreasing the large numbers of hits you have daily, thus decreasing expenses. A win-win situation.

To: DCBryan1
Agree with your pay for use concept but suggest that you set a minimum price per month. Some would spend more. There are not many sites I would pay to visit. This is one of them.
