Democratic officials in Virginia asked the US Supreme Court on Monday to reinstate a congressional map that would benefit their party ahead of this year’s midterm elections, the latest map drawing appeal to reach the high court amid a flurry of mid-decade redistricting.
The emergency appeal follows a decision from the state Supreme Court last week that voided Democrats’ attempt to redraw Virginia’s US House map via an April referendum in a way that would help Democrats pick up four additional seates. The Democrats are asking the US Supreme Court to effectively put that order on hold for this year’s midterm election.
The decision, the officials said, was “deeply mistaken on two critical issues of federal law with profound practical importance to the nation.”

this is a sad, face-saving move by the Virginia Dem’s. Heap the blame for their embarrassing fail on both the Va Supreme court, and the hated U.S. Supreme court.
Either dismissed without consideration, or a quick 6-3 vote against the petition.
Or put on their October Docket, by which time it will be way too late for the midterms this year.
Why must we respect the 51% who want to bypass the constitution, but not the 72% who voted to protect the rights of the 49% to have cohesive community districts?

Probably a part of the Democrat offensive against the US Supreme Court alleging USSC needs to be reformed by adding enough justices to return it to a liberal/progressive majority.

I just can’t see how it is appropriate for SCOTUS to even entertain a State supreme court decision that DOES NOT EXTEND OUTIDE THEIR STATE BORDERS.
This is not a federal, interstate issue that requires resolution.
Roberts will not even take a second look at it.
