A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen franchisee that operates more than 130 locations filed for bankruptcy to rightsize itself after facing mounting debt.
Sailormen Inc., a Miami-based franchisee that operates locations in Florida and Georgia, filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, according to its legal counsel.
The company, represented by Cole Schotz, is attempting to renegotiate or resolve the $129 million that it owes to lenders so it can emerge as a healthier franchisee.
The company blamed "various macroeconomic factors" for disrupting the business and forcing it to file for bankruptcy protection.
"Those factors include, among others, the national impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on restaurant operations, consumer choice, high inflation, increased borrowing rates and an increasingly limited qualified labor force," according to the court documents.

Hope this doesn't affect my local Popeyes as it's my favorite chicken.
Love That Bankruptcy From Popeyes
My guess is that the debtor will seek to renegotiate its leases. Not only will it want to reduce the base rent, but it will probably also ask the landlords to reduce the percentage of revenue they take as supplemental rent.
And they dropped onion rings and green beans as ‘side order’ item. I loved the onion rings and the green beans were very good.
I think Popeye’s was bought using a lot of debt right before COVID and then never really recovered after COVID. Massive debt plus lagging sales is a death sentence.
Nobody at the Popeyes near me, I think they average a 1 out of 5 star rating for service on the google reviews. They must be hiring Somalians to take the orders.
“and an increasingly limited qualified labor force,”
Apparently if you are smart enough to work at Popeye’s, you don’t want to work at Popeye’s.
I hate to see that because I love Popeye’s.
My little town finally got one recently. I wish we had a Chili’s but I’m not holding my breath.
Back when Al Copeland owned and operated all the Popeyes in New Orleans, it was always great.
Since then, the quality has plummeted, it is not even a shadow of its former self.
Popeyes is currently a subsidiary of Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International.
LOL!
It’s the best fast food in our area.
Excellent. Serve them right. A three-piece combo now is running like $16-$17. It’s absolutely ludicrous. And the quantity of food is barely enough to feed a seven-year-old.They are the 5 Guys burgers of fried chicken.
How long we blaming china flu?
I didn’t even know Popeye’s was still in business. Haven’t seen one in years.
Canadians and fried chicken is like Asians or Indians selling tex-mex.
Extremely salty food.
To my mind, Popeyes was the clear winner of the chicken sandwich wars. That is one hell of a sandwich. Their red beans and rice are perfect. They’re not common here in CA. Mine is a bit far, so I do t get there as much as I’d like.
They opened a Popeyes near my house a few years back and I just went to see what the hype was about…I didn’t care for it
The Popeyes at Carrollton & Earhart is the best on the planet, but NOLA has far better food options.
