Kaneohe Bay (HawaiiNewsNow) -- The Navy announced they ‘safely’ recovered the Military plane that overshot the runway and has been stuck in Kaneohe Bay for almost two weeks. Navy officials say it took meticulous planning and assembling specialized equipment from off island, a multidisciplinary team of military and civilian experts to carefully raise the P-8A Poseidon from the bay.
Officials say the operation lasted 13 hours, beginning at 6:30 a.m., Dec. 2. The aircraft was floated adjacent to the runway by 10:18 a.m. And the last portion of the airframe, the nose wheel, lifted out of the water at 7 p.m., Dec. 2.
“Our team went through a detailed planning process to develop the best course of action to get the P-8 out of the bay as quickly and as safely as possible,” said Rear Adm. Kevin P. Lenox, the salvage operation’s on-scene commander.
“At times, it took us an hour to move the aircraft five feet.”
This comes after the Navy announced that this salvage operation will cost $1.5 million with about $200,000 spent in efforts to secure the aircraft and remove fuel.
Officials said the aircraft assigned to Whidbey Island, Washington-based Patrol Squadron (VP) 4 “Skinny Dragons,” was on a detachment in support of maritime homeland defense.
There were nine crewmembers on board — three pilots and six crewmembers. All crewmembers safely evacuated the aircraft and no injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation.

WHY would a P-3 land at Bagram? WHAT mission(s) would it have in that AO?
Does the Navy train female pilots any differently than male pilots?
Given that the US military has both written and unwritten double standards for men and women in many areas, my guess is yes.
I know that there were multiple standards for women, minorities, and politically connected trainees when I went through USAF pilot training in the early 1990's
UPDATE: a USN spokesperson stated the aircraft was only lightly damaged and should return to service.

The USN was apparently very concerned about damage to the coral reef.
See, there's your problem. You people don't know "what a woman is". You think that just "claiming" to be a woman, qualifies a person for any job.
Why don't you and Ms Mulvaney go have a few "Bud Lights"; relax and "unwind".
Real GIBS have hash marks on their skivies, just like pilots.
Most of the time they are pilot-induced.
and all it’s electronics are junk... right?
Air Force pilots are notorious for using all of the available runway.
Navy pilots not so much.
How the pilot pees is irrelevant. Either way, dumping the bus into the bay is the sort of thing that turns up in your OER. Good thing is that nobody got killed.
We were doing some work near the runway and had to displace the threshold by about 1,000 feet for their own safety. Their response was to roll out 4- F15’s across the runway, throttled up and blew our sandbags and marks off the runway. They were pissed. Then they decided to play chicken with our heavy equipment by coming in way to low.
The Airport manager lost it and laid into the commanding officer and they knocked that crap off.
The EP-3C is also an AWACS plane (Airborne Warning and Control System). It detects other airborne threats, AA missile launches, etc.
There should be a rule on the site not to post such obscene pictures, how do you undo this after you have seen them?
Hardly. I was systems crew (not flight crew) on C-130s a few decades back. Our flight crews were mostly male, but not all. Everyone was fully competent and well-trained for the job they did, but s*** still happened on occasion.
If standards were lowered to accommodate women, then it's an issue we should all be concerned with. However, there are contradictory reports on the makeup of the flight crew, which, based on what I can find on the P-8, would be two people (pilot, co-pilot/navigator). The rest of the crew would be systems crew (7 there) and not responsible for the operation of the aircraft.
His blurb aside, having wings doesn't make one a pilot. At least not when I was in the USAF, not sure about Navy. I had wings and I was enlisted weapons system crew in the back.
Never knew that. Thanks.
You’re welcome.

LOLOL!
From your link:
“The Boeing-made plane is assigned to Patrol Squadron 4 stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington state. A separate crew from Whidbey Island has deployed to Hawaii to take over the squadron’s patrol missions near Hawaii.”
Is this saying that the crew of the damaged aircraft has been grounded?
Not aware of current policy, but i believe one can correctly infer they are administratively grounded for now, pending the investigation.
Maybe they can mount it outside the Big House at University of Michigan...
