An attempted terror attack on Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls today saw a car explode, causing a massive explosion at a toll checkpoint that killed the vehicle's two occupants.
Fox News cites law enforcement sources who say the intention was a larger attack to kill more.
It remains unclear if anyone aside from those in the car were injured.
The City of Niagara Falls says the explosion came from a car that was trying to enter the US from Canada.
It comes just two days after an intelligence report signaled increased risk of a terror attack in New York City.

I have used at least 15 different land border crossings between the U.S. and Canada in the last 30 years.
“I am having a hard time determining what the motive was for this attack.”
I’m thinking they had a different target in mind but sum ting went wong.
They mean the crossings in the vicinity of the Rainbow Falls one of which there are two official ones the Interstate Highway one north of Niagara Falls, the Fort Erie-Buffalo crossing and the crossing for “border pass” holders just north of the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls.

On Fox (Sirius radio) they said the car was from the U.S. side going into Canada. ?
I think that the crossing HAS to be the target, if your report is true. 100 mph the wrong way at an international border. Man, your odds of clearing that hurdle are next to zero.
CNN is reporting that the car was directed to a secondary inspection and that it was not in a primary inspection lane when it exploded.

That car was heading to someplace important. So, yeah. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to attend the Thanksgiving Day parade in NYC tomorrow.

Did they cross into the US, then tried to get away back to Canada?
I was responding to post 48. It was his report. I was hypothesizing.
I believe there are four bridges across the Niagara River, entering NYS near Buffalo/Niagara Falls. There are also bridges at Windsow, ON, Cornwall, ON, Prescott, ON and the Thousand Islands. There could be other bridges that I don’t recall.
IIRC, the bridges in the Niagara area are the busiest, due to the proximity of Toronto and the US ‘rust belt’ cities along Lakes Erie and Michigan.
It’s the only guess I have because why would you enter into a crossing at that high speed? They don’t usually check outbound cars - you just go through and stop at the booth for the country you are entering? This is weird and hopefully we will learn more information.
I am surprised (but thankful) that more stuff like this does not happen!
