Playing a role in the sudden rise of transgender children may be "transhausen by proxy," a term coined for narcissistic parents who push so-called "gender transitioning" on their children, some experts say. Celebrities are increasingly in the limelight with announcements about their children who come out as transgender or nonbinary. Nonbinary individuals identify as neither male nor female.
"Transhausen by proxy" isn't an officially recognized psychological condition. It's a play on an official condition known as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSBP). MSBP is a mental illness that's also sometimes called medical child abuse or factitious disorder imposed on others. It's exhibited mostly by women seeking attention by exaggerating or making up an illness of children or others in their care.
Transhausen by proxy has very real effects on society, experts told The Epoch Times.
They point to headlines like the one on Pride.com in May, which gushes: "15 Celebs Who Are Out & Proud of Their Trans & Nonbinary Kids." The article praises stars such as Cher, Sade, Jennifer Lopez, and Charlize Theron for supporting their children who reject their biological sex.
Another article by Pink News details how United Kingdom television stars Carrie and David Grant claim three of their four children are transgender or nonbinary.
Ms. Grant is a singer and voice coach. Her husband was part of the '80s band Linx and worked with groups such as the Spice Girls. The couple told the publication they had discussed alternate gender identities before their children "came out."
They're currently pitching their book, "A Very Modern Family," on the topic of "understanding queer and neurodivergent children."
But celebrities aren't the only ones heralding transgender and nonbinary children.
Parents routinely post on social media cheering their children's transition or advocating for "transgender rights." Some parents have been featured in news articles for fleeing red states that block transgender procedures for children and moving to blue states where "gender-affirming care" is allowed.
The increase in cases of gender dysphoria and families with multiple transgender children have led some medical and mental health professionals to suspect psychological illness, such as narcissistic personality disorder, is involved.
A Parent-Fueled Condition?
Dr. Erica Li is a pediatrician in Spokane, Washington, who considers herself an old-school liberal. She's not necessarily against gender transitioning. Early in her career, she considered becoming a pediatrician specializing in gender dysphoria.
However, she began to question why doctors were advocating for medical procedures to transition children without solid scientific evidence that the procedures came with an overwhelming benefit for their young patients, she told The Epoch Times.
If the cause of gender dysphoria is unknown in a patient and the prognosis of treatment is uncertain, then radical treatment with morbid side effects isn't justified, she said.
Dr. Li believes contemporary gender medicine is no longer based on reality. Now, she said, it's more about ideology. And the outcomes and long-term side effects of treating gender dysphoria are "murky."
And is a terrible irony that the liberals who insist on not being labeled immediately label a boy or girl as "trans" the minute they hear the 3 year old boy plays with dolls or the 6 year old girl likes to play with toy trucks in the dirt.
Nonsense. Many many parents are devastated by their adolescent and adult child’s descent into trans.
Children under 12? You have acpoint.
Why?
Well, we all know the preposterous lengths ‘celebrities’ will go to, in order to have media attention.
They're truly sick people ... I mean what normal person wants to get up in front of millions of people they've never met and ‘perform’ as they do? (That includes but is not limited to nudity and other smutty conduct on camera)

I’ve always expected this. The mother of that “Jazz” person certainly fits the bill here.
Those “parents” should be sterilized, then thrown into a psych ward.
I watched the Take Care of Maya Trial and learned about Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
Yes, it seems from the many stories posted on Free Republic over the years that many parents of trans-kids are guilty of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
As celebrity wanes they have nothing left.
Blame the parents, not the schools.
The probable reality is that children get to the transgender endpoint by various means, due to social influence of parents, sometimes, and/or teachers/counselors, peers, social pathogens like TikTok. Children are vulnerable to social influence from any and all sources because identities are still being formed.
It is the responsibility of adults to help that formation, and when they themselves are disorderd, they can do massive damage. The kid who really pushes for this on his own, without reinforcement from someone, is vanishingly scarce.
It is the “Look at Me” mental health problem. From the the me too movement to the trans craze to the overuse of plastic surgery. All these celebs screaming “Look at Me” “I am special” & weak minded people wanting to be just like them...
What a surprise......
The doctors quoted in this article make absolute sense in their statements. Such as in this paragraph:
“The part of the brain responsible for executive function is incomplete before 21, he said. Executive function is the higher-level cognitive skills used to control and coordinate other cognitive abilities and behaviors.
“When you’re an adolescent, you try everything,” Mr. Vaknin said. “And to render one of these experiments permanent is a crime. Anyone collaborating with this is a criminal.”
What is striking, Mr. Vaknin said, is the lack of unbiased, high-quality research on transgender procedures and outcomes.
“There isn’t a single study that has followed kids exposed to puberty blockers and then have transitioned,” he said. “Not one.””
Note. I posted this article this morning and it was pulled with a snarky comment that “search still works”. LOL! I promise I searched by the exact title and received no returns showing the article had already been posted. It is frustrating because this is not the first time that has happened to me.
If you have not read this thought-provoking book (published in 1979) it’s well worth your time to read: The Culture of Narcissism by Christopher Lasch.
“Transgender” children are the fruit of a tree that has been growing for some time.
Some of y’all like to harp away at the idea that “liberal women need to be forced (somehow) to have children and that will straighten them out” and blah, blah, blah-de-blah, blah.
You’re entitled to your opinion, which is not exactly a stupid one, but in order to know its true value, turn around and look what happens when these hyper-liberal parents DO reproduce.
I would say that a cat is a much better idea for a lot of today’s women.
And it’s not just sexual reproduction going on here: The ideas that are pimped in public school and about 99.9% of colleges in the USA are reproducing, too. So even a kid from a nice, normal family with regular values will have these hyper-liberal ideas implanted in its mind after exposure to non-reproducing commie teachers in public school.
So a nice, normal, Gd-fearing, law-abiding conservative family can have ten kids. Of course, in a family that large a couple of them are going to be bad eggs no matter what anyone does, so that leaves eight. Still a lot of kids, right?
Send these eight kids to public school. (Conservative ‘rents are not going to be able to send them to private school because that’s too expensive.)
Now, no matter how sh1tty their education is in said public school, a couple of them are probably going to turn out okay in spite of all that.
So that leaves six. Six leftist-indoctrinated little frogs are what we have. They may not be gender-confused, but they are going to have been coached to be very tolerant towards the scorpions. Parents will complain, but - HAHA! - it’s going to be too late for that.
It’s nice to have something to blame for our completely effed-up culture, but in the end, how much difference will it make?
You can’t get into a trannie’s face and scream at it that it needs to have babies to fix all the world’s problems.
Narcissistic parenting “wins.”
Each generation gets more and more mentally unstable.
The current crop of young teens going through transition are part of a larger cohort of non-transitioning teens — but I think a very big percentage of the whole crowd are messed in the head: from their crazy parents, from the schools, from social media, from the pandemic, from everything.
And one way or another this crop of ultra-crazy teens will be reproducing in 10 or 20 years. And their kids will likely be even more messed up. I’d say 2050 isn’t looking good.
I have no idea how a society turns this around. Because it’s not just the “transition” fad. It’s a broad swath of mental illness, and as you point out in your citation of a book from 1979, this isn’t new, it’s not transitory. This is a deeply entrenched problem.
In Hollywood having a trans kid is the new ‘teacup chihuahua’ or ‘adopted kid from a third world nation’.
Recently, one of my ex girlfriends from the 90’s had a huge celebration with her hubby of the pre-surgery trans announcement of their 19 year old son to becoming their new daughter. It was gag inducing (the pics I saw on social media). It makes sense in the fact that they babied and coddled this little “Marilyn Manson” tweenie dork. The girlfriend was lovely at the time, but I dodged a bullet to the head.
