Inflation is down unless you buy food to eat
American Thinker ^ | 11/14/2023 | Silvio Canto Jr.

We keep hearing that inflation is down, lower than a year ago or in the right direction or some other explanation like that. It's about what you'd hear from a White House managing a bad message.

And then mom goes to the grocery store and comes home shaking her head and looking at the bill.

This is when inflation goes from being a news story to a family conversation.

This is from Steve Cortes:

In fact, the latest survey results from the battleground swing states of America finds that food insecurity is a foremost worry of American citizens. My organization, the League of American Workers, just commissioned a sweeping poll of the battleground states of Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Our survey canvassed 800 registered voters from these states that almost surely will decide the 2024 presidential election, and perhaps control of Congress as well. The poll revealed an overall dismal mood in America, with a staggering 77% of voters stating that America is on the “wrong track” vs. only 17% conveying optimism.

The main driver of the pessimism is clearly economic anxiety, and only 39% of these battleground state voters gave Biden positive marks on that issue. Even more damning for Biden and the Democrats, among battleground state independents, only 9% say they “strongly approve” of Biden on the economy vs. a whopping 48% who “strongly disapprove.”

Within the topic of inflation, food prices worries placed far above other concerns for a supermajority of swing state voters. In fact, 60% of these citizens named food costs as either their number one or number two top concern. For context, the next biggest concern was income erosion at 39%.

Silvio is an ignorant clod

The rate of inflation is down.

The inflation of prices is cumulative irrespective of the rate.

When its said inflation is down it doesnt mean for example the price of milk is back to what it was a month ago, it means it didn’t increase as much this month as it did last month.

food is bad, though

the Gov’t is taxing every stage of the food-delivery system (especially fuel)

now they’re going after fertilizers (”contribute to global warming”)

Doesn’t matter. the Democrats aren’t worried, they can steal another election in broad daylight.

Exactly. It like I say to you: “Good news, you got 12” of water in your basement yesterday, but only 3” today.” Sure, but your basement is still flooded with 15” of water.

I live in California...I paid $5.29 yesterday for a gallon of “regular” gasoline.

Good to know that inflation is down...

Chicken thighs in “value pack” for $1.77/lb last week. Also had whole pork loins (approx 10 lbs) for $1.98/lb and had the butcher cut one into thirds for pork roasts.

Otherwise, try to load up on loss leaders, store brands, buy a few items at Sam’s Club.

Two three-inch-wide frozen Maryland-style crab cakes in a cardboard box one-half-inch deep, six inches long three inches wide price is twelve dollars and ninety nine cents at Publix. You can’t haggle. Who the hell do they think is going to buy that thing?

The pain relief section at Wal Mart has bare shelving over eighty percent of the length of the aisle. You used to see that kind of thing only in newsreels of the 50’s showing you the “benefits” of communism in Moscow supermarkets.

or they do it with “shrinkflation”

producers quietly make their package sizes smaller, but still charge the same price

hamburger patties are thinner, buns are smaller, etc.

Other than taxes and insurance, most of my spending is on food and fuel [including utilities].

” the price of beer is relatively unchanged”

NO!, I find beer prices to be yugely up since BiXiden. [Bud Light notwithstanding]

What brand are you using?

Speaking of Sam’s...they have the 60-ounce jug of pomegranate juice on sale for $7 right now. Pomegranate juice is a known ‘aphrodisiac’, and that might take your mind off of grocery prices for a bit. You’re welcome.

The “crab cake” is probably only 10% crab.

Inflation is down unless you buy food to eat

Wrong! If you start measuring inflation at the start of Biden's inauguration, the CPI was 258. It is now 309, so prices have increased 51 basis points since Biden took office; an increase of almost 20% in less than 4 years. So to say that inflation is down means that the CPI would have to be less than 258, so that statement is a baldface lie.

Also, the CPI conveniently does not include changes in fuel or food costs, which means the CPI is substantially understated. If you'd include those price changes, the CPI index would suggest an inflation of closer to 35%. Since I'm living off my social security checks, my spendable income has fallen by almost a third under Biden's "leadership".
