$16 McDonald’s meal leaves fans fuming — beloved fast food chain ‘no longer affordable’
New York Post ^ | Nov. 4, 2023 | Brooke Kato

An enraged McDonald’s customer says the fast food franchise is no longer affordable for ordinary Americans, calling the company’s contemporary prices “crazy.”

“So, I get there’s a labor shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things,” Idaho man Christopher Olive began in a viral TikTok clip, which has recently resurfaced.

“But $16? $16 for a burger, a large fry and a drink? It’s just crazy!” the flabbergasted content creator complained, panning to his itemized receipt from a McDonald’s restaurant in the city of Post Falls. The video was original posted on social media last December, but has now gone viral again after McDonald’s recently reported an increase in revenue directly influenced by a “strategic” hike in menu prices.

At Burger King you can use their app and the Offers to save quite a bit. Two days ago I got a Double Cheeseburger and fries for $4.99. Lots of other well-priced choices. If several of us are going, maybe one of the packaged offers work or we all go inside and purchase separately using each of our respective phones since the offers are one-only per person.

I'd have to already be pretty far gone before I'd brag about how I "gamed" the McD pricing system.

Regards,

See post 92.

What you call corporate greed is businesses trying to stay afloat amidst all the costs of doing business going sky-high.

The logical conclusion will be them folding. Then you can celebrate.

Little hack on the phone app: If you uninstall and reinstall it, you can get multiple deals immediately instead of waiting the mandatory 15 minutes or so.

That sounds like good advice; but I wouldn't know unless you start with "how to install it" and follow up with "how to uninstall it" on iPhone.

If I knew those things, I might be able to try your excellent hack.

I hate them too. There is an app for everything and it is a pain in the arse.

I can make a 8-oz grass fed beef burger with bacon and swiss cheese at home for about $5 in ingredient cost.

Yes. And it is much tastier and juicier than anything McDonald’s has.

I also know of a couple of local places where I can get an absolutely delicious burger for about the same price as the overpriced Mickey D’s now. FReeper Luvie knows one of the burger restaurants I’m talking about. 😋

LOL!! I haven't been to church since I was in my 20's. I'm 76 now!!

When I'm asked what CHURCH I attend I remind those that ask of the OLD 1972 TOM T. HALL song... "Me and Jesus Got Our Own Thing Going"

I very recently read that San Diego is the most expensive city in CA to live in. I’m up north near SF and it’s still no picnic.

Not scientific but I don’t visually see a drop off in traffic at McDonalds. Recently I saw a huge traffic jam that curled out into an adjacent parking lot then out into the street at a dual window drive up…at ten o’clock at night. This after noticing the day traffic as busy or busier then ever. People will pay so McDonalds should charge. That’s the way the world turns.

It’s cheaper if you don’t supersize it.

When ever I can, I support small business

Seemingly in my area, $15+ for a burger, fry and medium drink is the going rate whether franchise or mom and pop place.

For that reason, if I’m so moved, I get my burger at the one-of local place.

Agreed on the traffic pattern in the nearest McDonalds to our area.

The suburban Karens with little kids in the car still go there while doing shopping or other errands.

There would not be a labor shortage if 1/4 of the population got off their butts/dole and started working. It would also help if Democrat policies focused on family and promoted individual financial independence. But hey, I am white and liked to work, save and invest. What the heck do I know.

This isn’t new, it’s just been a while since we experienced a mature inflationary economy. Prices and wages leapfrog each other and everyone loses in real terms until the excesses are shaken out and we can have the next Goldilocks period.
All those raises will now lead to layoffs, as always.

I very recently read that San Diego is the most expensive city in CA to live in. I’m up north near SF and it’s still no picnic.

It's insane.

I'm only here because Uncle Sam gives out orders, not invitations.

Previously, I lived in Suffolk, VA, and Jacksonville, FL. I'm taking a major hit to my income, even after factoring the BAH increase.

I don't know how people live out here. A small, crappy home costs a million bucks. If you have four kids, as I do, I normal detached suburban home is simply not possible.

Everyone lives in apartments or condos and even those are crazy expensive. Before my family joined me out here, I was living by myself for five months in a 213 sq' apartment downtown (with a Murphy bed and a fold-up table) surrounded by homeless bums and great restaurants. I was paying $2100/month.

Speed for one, another is food seems a tad less greasy to me.

The ninja gets run a lot.

I doubt the main oven has been turned on twice this year.
