The U.S. budget deficit increased 23 percent to $1.7 trillion, an increase of $320 billion, in the year after the Biden administration pushed through the Inflation Reduction Act which it claimed would close the government’s funding gap.

The explosive growth in the deficit came as revenue fell $457 billion from a year ago and expenses decreased by just $137 billion. Total spending for the year came in at $6.134 trillion.

Lets get interest rates up around 10% and see how our much interest on the debt is then. Rocket fuel malt liquor. DAMN!

I unreservedly support Donald Trump in 2024. But when he was president, he didn’t veto a single major spending bill. Like Biden and all the rest, Trump didn’t give a damn about the deficit. Spend, spend, spend.

Should we give Trump (and the other presidents) a pass because these spending bills contained good things too? No. That’s where the buck stops. Every president has failed us in this regard.

Perhaps Trump 2.0 will be better, and he try to rein in the spending. We shall see.

It won’t be easy. The Wall will have to be finished, and the military rebuilt, also the Strategic Petroleum Reserve refilled And that’s just some of the things I can think of off the top of my head.

Pray to God he gets the chance. They’ll do anything to prevent him from being president again.

No he won't. Not that it matters because if I have to guess, there's a 10% chance that Trump will be able to beat Biden next year.

You are most certainly correct. The Deep State is evil, but they are not stupid. Should Trump regain the White House, he’ll be presented with spending bills that contain things he wants (like the wall), but will also increase the deficit.

So it will be tempting for Trump to sign those bills, and kick the deficit can down the road a little bit further. No, I say. It’s time to draw that line in the sand.

I have posted about this previously. I suppose I’m a bit more optimistic than you in that I give Trump a 15% chance of winning in 2024.

Democrat cheating, GOPe indifference, anti-Trump media propaganda…that’s one powerful combination.

Every president hands of debt bombs to the next one lately. R’s and D’s line up to vote for the big spenders regardless.

Plus the demographics. It’s not enough if we win Florida, Texas and Ohio when the Democrats have locked up enough states and we can’t get through their blue wall. Trump was able to do that in 2016 but I doubt we’ll be able to do it for a while.

” which it claimed would close the government’s funding gap.”

Did ANYBODY actually believe that?

Republicans promise things to their base that they want, and don’t even try to do it.

Democrats promise things and at least try for their side.

The only thing I’ve seen Republicans actually stand up for is the occasional 2A/anti-woke thing. They’re useless on immigration and anything related to finance. Even if they had full control of all branches of government they’d hardly spend any less than Democrats do.

They don’t really even pretend to care about economics anymore.

See others give Trump as high as 15% chance. That’s some true optimism there.
