In 2019, on a trip to the Bahamas with my mom and sister, my flight turned into an uncomfortable ordeal. My seat belt wasn’t long enough to fasten, and a fellow passenger's visceral reaction added to my discomfort. I repeatedly asked the flight attendant for a seat belt extender and was ignored until takeoff, leaving me feeling disregarded and disrespected.
And this wasn’t the first time I’ve dealt with this particular kind of travel stress. I went to Paris in 2014, and found the city cramped and unwelcoming. Narrow staircases, tiny chairs, and compact showers were just the beginning. Throughout my time there, I endured constant staring, rude comments, and fetishistic remarks about my body. But these types of roadblocks aren’t limited to Paris or my flight to Nassau—Society has an anti-fat bias, and you can encounter it anywhere.
Living in a world fueled by fatphobia creates unnecessary barriers, from limited clothing options to discrimination in medical care, employment, and relationships. According to the NIH, more than two in five adults live in a large body. And yet despite this fact, we continue to face daily challenges—including in travel, where inequities like the ones outlined below so often deny us access to the same life-changing experiences available to others.

Not according to her entitled summary. She felt "disrespected".
At least we know why they named her after a city.
We are now in a society that chooses to mainstream dysfunction. The only rational answer is there’s money in it. The “big” winners are therapists, healthcare, attorneys and a government that exists to victimize people and then “solve” their problems.
The question should be “Can you haul ass in just one trip?”
Yeah. When does fat become a protected class, with jailtime for anyone who makes a fat person feel “uncomfortable”?
I cannot wait for their next article..... “ The Uneasy Truth About Traveling When You Haven’t Bathed For A Month”.
There ought to be a law. Government should end discrimination of all kinds. Fat people are people too. There needs to be equity. That can be achieved by pairing thin people with obese people using a couple quota system. Each couple must have a total weight of 450lb +/- 50lbs. That will lead to a diversity of relationships since there are different combinations to get to 400-500lbs. Perhaps allowing polygamy is another way to achieve equity and diversity.
Granted, it will take time, but eventually you’ll see changes in transportation seating. Government mandates for side-by-side large and small seating will aid in ending this most hideous form of discrimination when traveling. (I really hope no one is asking if this is sarcasm.)
When you need to apply sunscreen with a five gallon bucket and a roller.
Not much said in the article that they should purchase two seats.....

Right. There was an article posted here at FR a few weeks back about a fat man who did exactly that. He purchased two seats for his comfort and anyone sitting next to him.
Well it turned out that some doofus who did not plan ahead asked the fat guy if he wouldn’t mind trading seats so the doofus and his family could sit together. “No.”
The doofus caused a scene, but lost. Sentiment on FR was solidly in favor of the fat guy.
The "fragrant" experience was augmented by having an infant with a poopy diaper changed just a few seats away. There is a changing table in the restroom. Don't do that on in the passenger cabin on the seats.
Could be worse. You could be fat, gay, black AND have an unmanageable school debt that Brandon hasn't paid off yet.
OK, that was funny.
“I went to Paris in 2014, and found the city cramped and unwelcoming. Narrow staircases, tiny chairs, and compact showers were just the beginning.
Well.... how DARE they!
They suffer from a form of mental illness, the opposite of anorexia.
“Society has an anti-fat bias, and you can encounter it anywhere.”
Because anti-fat bias is good for a healthy society.
Well said.
they could build airplanes with one side of the plane that has seats for obese people, and the other side just for skinny people....- oh, nope- that won’t work
