Trump Shreds DeSantis: He ‘Can’t Win the General Election’ Because of Record on Entitlement Programs

Former President Donald Trump blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) ahead of his presidential campaign launch on Wednesday, asserting he would be doomed to fail in the general election after voting to overhaul entitlement programs when he was a congressman.

Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate, took to Truth Social to hit DeSantis’s support of legislation that took aim at Social Security and Medicare during his time in Congress :

That is the real issue all the charges are bogus, the campaign will come down to Trump’s issues not the Biden disaster and criminal conduct.

Ten bucks says Trump will pull a 1992/Perot if he does not get the nomination.

The way Trump attacks Republicans, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ran as an Independent.

The debt of the US will never be paid. Never.

Yep, they just print off new company stock certificates (US dollars), renewing the debt to other hapless US Treasury investors in order to pay off the older obligations. They also print a little extra (deficit / dilution / inflation - call it what you will), backed only by "faith", to buy government toys, pay for early retirement, and grease the foreign aid kickback machine - this at the expense of everyone who has some (now diluted) dollars set aside and also at the expense of anyone living paycheck to paycheck who hasn't got the clout to demand a raise to counter the dilution.

Theoretically, if everyone accepts a routine and small dilution/inflation tax, the dilution can go on forever. But when the leaders' grift, graft, and greed begin to blind them, they start acting like the money grows on trees. They print a lot of extra certificates, and like all Ponzi schemes, diluting the money pool into a worthless swill, and soon bring on the scheme's inevitable collapse.

Let's hope he doesn't kill Republican chances in 2024.

If the "Republican" role player has proven his fealty to the money & power gods (MPGs), he'll be allowed to win in 2024. A "Republican" win of that sort would be a hugely successful subterfuge for the MPGs.

The charges are bogus, I agree. But he will be convicted and sentenced to prison, probably before the election. You forget, all of the cases are in dem jurisdictions - all the jurors will be dems, as will be the judges. the actual trials will be formalities.

Is this unfair? Yes. But this election is far too important to spend all the oxygen in the room on Trump’s trials, and not on Biden, his family and corruption, and far left policies. Trump needs to step aside.

I agree with you, the first criminal case is in NYC, the chances of Trump getting a fair trial are ZERO.

Atlanta, will be the next case, he might have some chance in that case.

Washington DC, will be the last case, he will have ZERO chance in this case.

We also agree on the charges being bogus and unfair, that doesn’t change the fact the charges exist and it’s almost certain Trump gets convicted in 1 or more of the cases.

Let’s assume Trump wins the nomination and somehow wins the General Election, if he’s convicted in 1 of those cases, he would be in the “high crimes and misdemeanors” category of impeachment.

How fast do you think all Democrats and probably all RINO Republicans would move to impeach Trump and probably succeed.

This election is far to important than to fight about the Donald Trump revenge tour.

Flipped on the war in Ukraine and now on building the wall. DeSantis is typical establishment bait-and-switch sleazebag.

DeSantis’s big problem is going to be how to run a campaign and NOT infuriate Trump supporters.

Don’t think he can pull it off.

DeSantis hasn’t flipped on the wall, at all.

Steve Cortes, who used to work for Trump but is now helping the DeSantis campaign, said in an interview yesterday that one of the core points of attack they plan on using against Trump is how ineffective he was in actually building the wall, as a matter of fact.

DeSantis’s big problem is going to be how to run a campaign and NOT infuriate Trump supporters.

That’s true, and the ones who literally live for Trump’s mean tweets and unbridled arrogance won’t move from Trump under any circumstance, and that’s a large portion of them.

But what DeSantis will do, is logically and respectfully lay out where Trump isn’t conservative, such as his support of big government spending, gay marriage and the like, and point out you don’t have to accept such horrible things in a Republican President. What matters more, the issues, or the fate of a man who’s long past retirement age.

Excellent post.

The dichotomy that Trump faces is that his strongest supporters primarily support him for his larger than life, I can do things mere mortals can’t get away with persona, but that persona and lifestyle has inevitably led to a lynch mob that will stop at nothing to take him down.

That doesn’t mean he’s guilty of any of these crimes, but he often acts outlandishly to build his reputation of being unstoppable, to attract his supporters, but at this point he’s attracted too many opposing forces to remain unstoppable.

He should have done a better job of making and keeping friends at his level, and picking his battles better, then trying to be a one man wrecking crew show off, who almost always meet a bitter end.

I’d like to hear how Trump plans to get Americans to agree on abortion. It’s just one fairy tale after another from Trump World these days. The true believers eat it up this nonsense and everybody else just laugh.

I play to win first. Losers, no matter how conservative are powerless to pursue anything conservative.

Foe example everyone of following are sterling conservatives. They have no power to pass any conservative legislation after losing and have become irrelevant.

Roy Moore
Todd Akin
Ken Cuccinelli
Richard Mourdock
Christine O’Donnell
George Allen
Joe Miller
Ken Buck
Alan West
Doug Hoffman
Barry Goldwater

Did I ever say Trump is a social conservative? Or even a fiscal conservative?

Reason I keep supporting Trump is for 3 reasons which are all necessary to save United States.

1. Bring back manufacturing jobs with punishing tariffs on countries with whom we have large trade deficits.

2. Stop spending on all foreign wars and do not get involved in a new one.

3. Protect our borders instead of Ukraine’s.

Only Trump has done all of above, and none of the career politicians have, and neither will DeSantis.

I don't think Trump can go the third party route if he loses the race for the Republican Presidential nomination. After Theodore Roosevelt attempted a third party run in 1912, several states passed "sore loser" laws to block similar third party runs. Remember that all significant third party runs after 1912, like Perot in 1992 and 1996, John Anderson in 1990, George Wallace in 1968, and Strom Thurmond and Henry Wallace in 1948, involved men who did not compete in the major party primaries.

That would not preclude Don Trump, Jr., from running as a third party candidate.
