Former President Donald Trump blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) ahead of his presidential campaign launch on Wednesday, asserting he would be doomed to fail in the general election after voting to overhaul entitlement programs when he was a congressman.
Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate, took to Truth Social to hit DeSantis’s support of legislation that took aim at Social Security and Medicare during his time in Congress :

Trump running scared, he also said DeSantis needs a personality transplant, that’s rich coming from Trump. I like Trump, I just wish he’d shut the hell up and concentrate on how he plans to win the election. I’m voting for Trump only because I have family in Florida and I don’t want them to lose DeSantis as a governor.
One could respond by saying Trump can’t win the general election because he will be under multiple criminal indictments by then.
I’ll leave that to others to stir it up
Trump going back to his NYC liberal roots again and again. Comical.
So Trump is out running his mouth again. And on the topic of entitlement programs, what did Trump fix?
At this point the barbs are fair game, Ron chose to enter the election primary.
This will all play out now in the primary and election cycle.
Yup, and only about 16 months to go.
One does get the impression that Mister Trump is far more concerned with Governor DeSantis than RDS is with Trump.
DeSantis' record as Gov is more than impressive. He has a broader appeal than Trump, and he's anything but a quitter.
The Dems fear DeSantis, and would just love to see Trump get the GOP nod as he is so very beatable in the general.
Trump gets shriller and shriller by the day. DeSantis must enjoy living rent-free in Trump's head.
That all changed in a window of time between 2003 and 2017. It started when the GOP-controlled Congress and President George W. Bush passed the massive Medicare prescription drug package in 2003. Then the original Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) was passed in 2010 by the Democrats; it was estimated to be "revenue-neutral" over the next ten years on the basis of $500 billion in future Medicare cuts.
The Republican Party won control of the House in 2010, and the Senate in 2012, by promising to restore those Medicare cuts.
The GOP then kept all the entitlement spending in place in 2017 when it failed to live up to its promise to repeal ObamaCare.
And so here we are.
And Trump is on solid political ground here -- not because massive entitlement spending isn't a problem, but because these duplicitous @ssholes in the GOP who have been pushing for entitlement reform have no leg to stand on while they piss away trillions of dollars on military campaigns all over the globe.
Trump must really be scared of DeSantis. These comments are borderline obsessive and 100% off the wall.
He can't win. Nor can anyone THEY don't want to win. The elections of 2020, and 2022 should have lifted the veil for all of US.
Sadly, you're correct.
I just wish he’d shut the hell up and concentrate on how he plans to win the election.
That's not even a major consideration during the primary season.
You get the most flak when you are over the target. Trump is scared of De Santis.
They probably boost both Trump and DeSantis overall.
Mark my words, hold me to it, I bet Trump and Biden will not be on the ballot by election time. Let's hope he doesn't kill Republican chances in 2024.
This will all play out now in the primary and election cycle.
EXCEPT, Trump has been running his stupid mouth about DeSantis for months. It's tiring and he's making himself look like a scaredy cat.
Ron DeSantis is the 2024 version of Jeb Bush. He's just a somewhat more formidable opponent because he doesn't have the mildly retarded persona that made Jeb such an easy target.
I remember a long time ago when conservatives thought Social Security NEEDED reform! Now we’re a dozen years away from a 30% cut in payouts, and...it is STILL “untouchable”?
Well, Trump may die of old age before it fails so maybe he isn’t worried.
Anyone here trusting Joe Biden to figure it out? What IS Trump’s plan to save it?
Meaning he’s not socialist enough?
That was the comment of 2024 campaign.
