It sounds like President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have resolved one crucial point on the debt negotiations. They’ve reached the most important agreement — they will avoid a default and take that option off the table.
They came together to list their points of agreement:

That’s going to flip out the left who seemed set on driving us off a cliff. But it looks like now negotiations are moving forward.
Afterward, McCarthy told reporters early Monday afternoon that Biden would need a deal by “this week” in order for it to pass the House and Senate before the June 1 “X-date” when Treasury Secretary Jane Yellen has said the U.S. could default.
Yellen warned Sunday that June 1 is a “hard deadline” for raising the debt limit, and the possibility of making it to mid-June without default is “quite low.”
They’re still not there and it can still go south, but it looks now like things might be finally going in the right direction. They don’t have a lot of time left. They will also have to get the House and the Senate to pass whatever agreement they finally agree to—if they come to a deal.
This is a breaking story and RedState will keep you up to date with any new developments.
‘We The People’ will get screwed either way.
It’s all theater and agitprop.
There’s no way they’ll stop spending. There’s no way they’ll reduce any government programs or slash the government payroll. Government is an out of control monster (that we’ve built!) that produces NOTHING and consumes EVERYTHING in it’s path.
And it’s in neither party’s nature to change that. :(
It’s very much like Islamic terrorism. While both include their leaders who formally conspire to thwart and destroy America, most of their power resides in loosely organized individuals who are just maniacally committed to the cause. In the case of leftists, these individuals are everywhere within the federal departments, and see as their mission total resistance to any effort from the right to reform government or roll back destructive leftist ideology. So, while there is definitely a formal “deep state” that directly conspires to prevent outsiders, like Trump, from gaining any foothold, much of what we fight against is also just the mass of leftist fellow travelers that are everywhere within the bureaucracy. They act sort of like an immune system for the deep state, or more accurately, like a virus that has infected its host and turned its own body against it.
Perhaps at least this will end some of the inane hysterical end of the world fear mongering from the media and certain Dems.
In other words, they both agreed on the Common Core math they would use to show reductions in spending. Typically with a 10-year horizon or some other nonsense.
McCarthy CAVED OR DID NOT CAVE. SIMPLISTIC OPTIONS.
The fact is that McCarthy is fighting the horrid omnibus spending bill passed by the last Congress.
And he is doing his best.
MOre military spending
Defund 87000 IRS agents
Get the Unspent Covid Money Back
If McCarthy gets these done, its a win.
“Afterward, McCarthy told reporters early Monday afternoon that Biden would need a deal by “this week” in order for it to pass the House and Senate before the June 1 “X-date” when Treasury Secretary Jane Yellen has said the U.S. could default.”
The word “could” needs to be called out every time a politician says it.
It’s like this every single time. Nothing but pure theater. How many shows have you seen that end EXACTLY like this every time?
And the market says ‘ho hum.’ The DJIA, NASDAQ and S&P 500 are basically flat today.
Biden will make a deal, then renege and blame GOP.
You heard it here first.
Treasury gets $$$$$$$$ incoming every single week-—Primarily Payroll deductions.
I totally agree with your analysis.
This means Conservatives need to be truly over-ambitious in order to make America great again. We’ll find “Greatness” as soon as we overpowered the culture-marxists and the Hydra protecting them.
“And the market says ‘ho hum.’ The DJIA, NASDAQ and S&P 500 are basically flat today.”
The markets know that there was no risk the debt ceiling did not get raised.
“Biden Caved” = The democrats moving from “Ludicrous Spending” temporarily down to “Ridiculous Spending”. As soon as the debt ceiling is raised they will spend it all and be back at the same old game.
“McCarthy Won” = Republicans got loose agreement that spending increases will be marginally lower - but there will be no guarantees that spending increases will be lower over time.
This is what passes for “government” these days. There is no intention to moderate the risk of economic calamity/inflation/unemployment.
Republicans and Democrats will “trade the deal” in the markets and make money for themselves.
There are a lot of people on “our” side and even on this forum who feel we should find “common ground” with the Left on issues like this one or we won’t get elected.
Abortion? Need to find “common ground” or we won’t get elected.
Budget? Need to find “common ground” or we won’t get elected.
Homosexuality and Transgenderism? Need to find “common ground” or we won’t get elected.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
American children? Not exactly. We are importing poverty from the 3rd world by the million.
That horde flooding across the border are going to be your new, poor, illiterate neighbors without jobs. Of course you get to support them with government handouts so they aren’t worried.
It’s all theater. At the end of the day there’ll be more spending, more Fedzilla, spun as a ‘Win’ for conservatives.
This isn’t about Trump. Why did you bring him into this?
Because I felt like it. What’s it to you anyway? It always amazes me how you hate truth. Well tough. Grow up for a change and stop being immature and answer the thread with a normal reply and not some dumb statement or question.
Oh by the way, I went back to my post and as usual it was perfectly appropriate for me to add trump into the discussion. Again I’m right.
