BREAKING: Biden Caves, He and Speaker McCarthy List Points of Agreement, Take Possibility of Default off the Table

It sounds like President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have resolved one crucial point on the debt negotiations. They’ve reached the most important agreement — they will avoid a default and take that option off the table.

They came together to list their points of agreement:

JUST IN: Pres. Biden outlines agreements and pain points in ongoing debt ceiling negotiations with House Speaker McCarthy: "We both agree default's not really on the table. We've got to get something done here." https://t.co/9q3mCFLnXe pic.twitter.com/cCVsPE3WSy

That’s going to flip out the left who seemed set on driving us off a cliff. But it looks like now negotiations are moving forward.

Afterward, McCarthy told reporters early Monday afternoon that Biden would need a deal by “this week” in order for it to pass the House and Senate before the June 1 “X-date” when Treasury Secretary Jane Yellen has said the U.S. could default.

Yellen warned Sunday that June 1 is a “hard deadline” for raising the debt limit, and the possibility of making it to mid-June without default is “quite low.”

They’re still not there and it can still go south, but it looks now like things might be finally going in the right direction. They don’t have a lot of time left. They will also have to get the House and the Senate to pass whatever agreement they finally agree to—if they come to a deal.

This is a breaking story and RedState will keep you up to date with any new developments.

I do love Kevin McCarthy's courage and resolve.

It's been a long while since we GOPers have had such a strong and principled SOTH.

The “deal” is they get enriched and our country goes from 10 times bankrupt to 10.5 times bankrupt. American children and grandchilden will mostly live in poverty.

“We literally talked about where we were having disagreements and ideas. So to me that’s productive. Not progress, but productive.”

Considering Biden backed off his “screw you” stance on negotiations, I’ll not sure how this would imply McCarthy caved.

Well no way was he going to get everything he wanted. Democrats aren’t that going for that. But if he gets more then trump did his three times, he raised the debt limit, I consider it a win.

They’ll play with numbers and projections and marginal changes and declare victory wiyhout any real structural change and the media will lap.it up and markets soar (after well timed options by family members of Congress)

I agree. Some here think that because he hasn’t brought down the entire deep state himself by now, he’s worthless.
Doesn’t work like that.

.
Exactly

McCarthy only wanted Spending levels of 2022.

One would think Biden could do that.

It’s not over.

Only 8% of the federal budget is needed to pay interest on the debt.

Biden and Congress have access to the other 92% of federal spending that they could use to make sure that there is no debt default.
