Nearly one in five adults in the US say they have a relative who was killed by a gun, a disturbing new study revealed Tuesday.

The troubling statistic included death by suicide, according to the report from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

A similar amount – 21 percent – of respondents said they had been personally threatened with a gun.

The study also found that people of color were disproportionately impacted by gun violence, with three in 10 black adults and one-fifth of Hispanic respondents saying they have witnessed someone being shot.

Thirty-four percent of black adults reported having a family member who was killed by a firearm, or two times the share of white adults who said the same.

The reason I ask is that many press accounts just describe the shooters as “pedestrians”, or “motorists” or “food shoppers” or “youths.”

If there were valid descriptions of people doing the killings maybe researchers could begin to put two and two together.

I am 67 years old, completely pro gun, over the years I have personally known 7 people, 6 male one female, who have committed suicide, all with guns. Does it bother me, well, its sad that most of them made that extreme choice, one got what he really deserved. I'm not going to surrender my rights for the poor life choices of others.

You can make statistics work for whatever you want. I imagine this is fairly accurate once you consider suicide deaths using a gun. A “relative” has a very expansive meaning well beyond your immediate family and is multi-generational. 21% were “threatened” by a gun...define “threatened.” For every woke person, just being in the same house as a secured weapon is a threat. So it doesn’t take much to get to 21% without knowing who was polled.

I have a family member who was killed with a gun. The gun was probably either an AK-47 or an SKS. The killing was committed by either an NVA or VC soldier in Viet Nam ... I wonder to what extent that sort of thing skews the statistics.

The last member of my family killed by a gun was by a SS Sniper at Nijmegen bridge during Operation Market Garden.
