Wagner mercenary chief warns the entire Russian frontline is at risk of COLLAPSING if his troops fail to take Bakhmut and are forced to retreat

The founder of Russia's Wagner group of mercenaries has warned the entire frontline will collapse if his troops in the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut do not receive more ammunition.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose organisation has played a significant part in Russian military successes in recent months, said his ammo-starved forces were the 'cement' holding the frontline together and the last line of defence to win the war.

'Today, Wagner is the cement that, as I've said previously, is holding the Ukrainian army in place – grinding it down, destroying it and preventing it from deploying to other regions and occupying other fronts.

'We're also moving forward and the [Russian] army is forced to follow behind us to save face and prop up their reputation... If the Wagner group pulls back, then the following situation will unfold.

'It is clear that the front will crumble, the front will crumble for the Russian borders, perhaps it crumbles even further.'

Prigozhin made the remarks in a four-minute-long video published over the weekend by a Wagner-linked Telegram channel.

But yesterday he complained that most of the ammunition that his forces were promised by Moscow last month had not yet been shipped.

'For now, we are trying to figure out the reason: is it just ordinary bureaucracy or a betrayal?' Prigozhin asked on his usual press service Telegram channel.

“Wagner mercenary chief warns the entire Russian frontline is at risk of COLLAPSING if his troops fail to take Bakhmut and are forced to retreat”

With this headline, I’m starting to think that Wagner is working with the Russian government to troll NATO to keep dumping people and hardware into Bakhmut, just to get destroyed.

In any case, we’ll find out soon enough.

There ought to be objective answers to these questions.

You're probably never going to get solid answers, from either side. Maybe after it's all over, but even then I doubt it. You're certainly not going to get it from a lot of FReepers -- both sides have dug trenches, with most doing nothing but slinging (immature) mud at each other.

I will say the only thing I've learned for certain, as I've said many times (and have believed since the fall of the Soviet Union, and the Gulf War), Russia doesn't have the vaunted military our Military-Industrial Complex led us to believe. They are Third World, at best.

Assuming all of this is true, where along the front do your sources tell you to expect the Chicom Inchon airlift?

This was the German strategy during the battle of the Somme in WWI. The French continuously reinforced the town only to be decimated by German artillery. Things aren't much different today as they were then.

The very fact that you don’t see western reporters at the war front means that this war is going poorly for the Ukrainians and NATO mercenaries. It is the strongest proof you can find in a world of liars.

Please please Unka Joe, please counterattack us now. We’re finally all out of ammo and reduced to fighting with shovels. You have MI-6’s word for it.

No, there is no unbiased reporting.

I would suggest that you look at the results over months to see what is happening. Of course this means that

1. we will always be behind the current status
2. predictions are going to fail

AngelPark: "I will say the only thing I've learned for certain, as I've said many times (and have believed since the fall of the Soviet Union, and the Gulf War), Russia doesn't have the vaunted military our Military-Industrial Complex led us to believe.
They are Third World, at best."

I am 100% pro-Ukrainian, and for exactly that reason, I would never underestimate the Russians.
Here are some key points to remember about Russia:

  1. First & foremost, Russians are not stupid, they learn as fast as anyone else just what works and what doesn't work.
In due time, they will figure out how to win.

  2. Russia is a huge country with almost unlimited natural resources and three times the population of Ukraine.
If they put their minds & backs into it, they will build an awesome conventional military force.

  3. Economically, I see conflicting reports on whether Western sanctions against Russia have actually done damage.
I suspect not, but we have forced Russians to realign their economy away from the West and more towards the East, notably China, India, Pakistan and Iran.
And, if I understand correctly, higher energy prices have more than paid for the costs of war in Ukraine.
So Vlad is profiting from his invasion of Ukraine.

  4. My understanding (I could be wrong) is that Russia has held in strategic reserve two thirds of its military, including its best units.
These are to protect the 12,000+ miles of Russian borders that are not with Ukraine.

  5. No military, no matter how well equipped & trained, can become a true fighting force without the hard lessons learned in actually fighting.
Both Russia and China have awesome militaries -- on paper, on the parade grounds -- but neither has been seriously tested in battle in a very long time.
So, Ukraine is Russia's trial by fire and, even if they lose Ukraine, the Russian military will come out of it much stronger and better prepared for their next invasion.

The historical example here is, the Russian army which could barely defeat the Finns in 1939 was somehow able to (barely) withstand the German onslaught in in 1941, before becoming a world war winning force in, circa, 1943.

  6. Off-setting that, presumably, so will the E.U. and NATO be better much prepared next time.

...before becoming a world war winning force in, circa, 1943.

The only reason Russia defeated Germany on the Eastern Front is because Hitler chose to fight on multiple fronts. Had he chosen to concentrate his forces we would have a different history today. The Red Army was bad then, and it's bad now.
