President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed legislation protecting same-sex and interracial marriage.
Hundreds of people gathered on the White House South Lawn to commemorate the Respect for Marriage Act becoming law.
"Today is a good day," Biden said as he took the podium after Vice President Kamala Harris. "A day America takes a vital step toward equality, for liberty and justice, not just for some, but for everyone. Toward creating a nation where decency, dignity and love are recognized, honored and protected."
"We're here today to celebrate their courage and everyone who made the day possible," the president continued. "Courage that led to progress we've seen over the decades, progress that gives us hope that every generation will continue on our journey toward a more perfect union."
The ceremony included performances from Grammy winners Sam Smith and Cyndi Lauper. Smith, who announced they were non-binary in 2019, performed their hit song "Stay With Me" followed by Lauper singing "True Colors."
Appearing in the White House briefing room ahead of her performance, Lauper told reporters, "We can rest easy tonight because our families are validated."

𤢠Special treatment is NOT equal treatment!
It’s coming. This has become an “anything goes” society.
Not just to shut them up, but also to punish them.
As the descent of our society continues, it is hard sometimes to maintain the sense of outrage-call it outrage fatigue. However, there are some infamous days and events which mark a particular watershed moment. This is one of them. I still remember the day the California legislature passed their same sex marriage law, the city of Sacramento was (appropriately) ringed with fire from the flames of wildfires brought on by other stupid and degenerate liberal policies. I reflected that this was a warning from G-d signifying his growing anger at the loss of basic American (Judeo-Christian) values and mores.
I fear G-d and I fear that this event will not go unnoticed from the One above.
Marriage is the purview of the state, not Congress. Congress can not tell a state they have to recognize a marriage they donât agree with. Supremes will shoot it down. States are the last authority on abortion and the exact same thing will apply to marriage.
True that. And I believe it gets into underage "marriages" as well. For example, IIRC California has no minimum age for marriage as long as the parents approve (which many of the diversity-is-your-strength people in California do). Until today this meant a pedo-groom thought twice about moving with his child bride out of Commiefornia because in another state someone might try to use the state's child protection services to rescue the girl from her "marriage". This law says other states have to treat the child-bride as a bride and not a trafficking victim.
Seems like it.
It’s coming. This has become an “anything goes” society.
Clarence Thomasâ opinion in the Dobbs ruling called for the Court to re-examine previous rulings involving due process in several previous cases, including Obergefell. This law is a response to that.
First step.
The timing is not a coinkydink.
The effect is the same.
If a same sex couple gets married in a single state where it’s legal, all of the other states have to recognize it. The way it used to work (before 2015) is that states only had to recognize marriages from other states when they did not conflict with their own state laws under the principle of comity.
Not true. You need to read into the Bill.
Here is a comment from the Heritage Foundation concerning this bill: Donât be fooled by the leftâs messaging:
This bill is no exception to the leftâs agenda. It too is just another radical policy being peddled by progressives.
Despite its name, the bill isnât about marriage or respect at all. Itâs about imposing the radical leftâs sexual ideology as state orthodoxy.
Final passage would mean states no longer are allowed to define and recognize marriage as a legal union between a man and a woman. Instead, they would be forced to recognize any union between two individuals, regardless of sex, as marriage.
Even more radical, the bill would require federal recognition of polygamy if just one state requires it.
By radically redefining marriage and eviscerating statesâ rights, the bill would transform matters of disagreementâeven on the basis of deeply and sincerely held religious beliefâinto discrimination.
Those who refuse to submitâwhether states, government officials, or any the U.S. attorney general deems to be âacting under the color of State lawââwould be punished for their beliefs.
Despite what advocates might say, similar laws elsewhere have been weaponized to punish dissenters. As they have done with dissenters before, radical leftists would use this law to ensure yet a more total compliance with their ideology.
Ultimately, enactment of HR 8404 would destabilize essential pillars of American society: family and religion.[1]

It wasn’t necessary. The odds of SCOTUS reversing itself so soon after the 2015 decision was highly unlikely.
Romans 1
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
“A day America takes a vital step toward” Sodom and Gomorrah.
It should take the Supreme Court less than half a day to strike down this unconstitutional, invalid, and illegal federal act.
