Why the GOP’s popular-vote edge hasn’t translated to more House seats
The Washington Post ^ | November 14, 2022 | Aaron Blake

Republicans appear primed to win the narrowest of House majorities — around 220-215 or 219-216 — despite winning a majority of the votes nationwide and edging Democrats by around four percentage points.

If they do ultimately win by around four points, it would mean Republicans improved on their margin from the 2020 election by around seven points, but they were only able to add about 2 percent of seats, as the Cook Political Report’s Dave Wasserman notes.

This has understandably led to some griping and head-scratching among Republicans who wonder how they’re struggling to win the House despite that swing. But it’s worth putting in context.

The first thing to note is that we have incomplete results. The Cook Political Report’s national popular vote tracker currently shows Republicans winning 51.7 percent of House votes to the Democrats’ 46.8 percent — a gap of about five points.

The WAPO was part of the Get Trump Operation.

That’s who they are.

From the WaPo article, a typical slam at the Pubbies:

Besides that election, though, Republicans have gained a disproportionate number of House seats in every other election over the last 28 years. The gap was particularly pronounced in 2012, 2014 and 2016, thanks to the GOP’s successful gerrymandering after the 2010 census.

Not mentioned - the successful Dem and DS gerrymandering of the 2020 census, if not outright lying.

Redistricting hurt in many places. And, as stated above, Democrats cheat!

North Carolina Supreme Court forced NC Legislature to redraw their map while blue states like Maryland were allowed to keep their gerrymandered map.

I didn’t hear any bitching on our side in 2016 when Hillary won the popular vote.

Good news with that is the two liberals on the North Carolina Supreme Court that were on the ballot in 2022 both lost.

That means the North Carolina Supreme Court is going from a 4-3 Democrat majority to a 5-2 GOP majority.

Electoral vote don’t mean squat for Gubernatorial and Senatorial races.

Democrats cheat.

That 'excuse' doesn't work in states where the Republican vote split badly. In GA, for example, the R Gov won by 8 or so points, but the R Senate candidate is struggling in a run-off, meaning he apparently got +0 benefit.

Before broadly painting the races the Republican lost as being stolen, those individual races have to be examined.

I just watched some election office twit from Maricopa telling us that vote counting always takes this long.......

Define "always"!

Please provide proof that the vote count was not complete by the Monday following the election in 2020, or 2018, or 2016, or 2014, or 2012, or 2010.....or 2000...or 1980....!

"Journalist" = Holds microphone for the liar.

True but there is a difference. Ckinton’s entire advantage came from Cali and NY. The GOP advantage here is reflected nationwide. But like POTUS it’s not how the game is played.

Has anyone read any articles about the Democrats poor fortune only hanging on
to the Senate by a thread?

Every victory by the Republicans is couched in dire terms, and described as Trump’s fault it wasn’t better.

The Compost’s motto is “Democracy dies in darkness.” No, democracy dies in voter registrar’s offices.
