When “Batman and Robin” came out in 1997, it seemed like everyone was focused on Alicia Silverstone’s body. The actor who played Batgirl was greeted with misogynistic and body-shaming echoes of “Fatgirl” by so-called fans of the franchise. In a particularly gross quip, late director Joel Schumacher laughed about how Batgirl’s suit came “with nipples. We’re an equal opportunity movie.”
When it was announced last summer that an actor of color was going to play Batgirl in a live action film, racist trolls came for star Leslie Grace in the same way they came for Halle Bailey after she was chosen to star as Ariel in “The Little Mermaid.” In the comics, Batgirl is white. Grace is Dominican. Some fanboys couldn’t deal with the fact that they weren’t getting the Batgirl they wanted.
Why can’t Batgirl get a break?

I have the original Howard the Duck comic book, which was fantastic, then they ruined it with the movie.
Huh?
Joel Schumacher himself put nipples on batman’s suit!

Comment doesn’t make sense…he was a homosexual though, so…
None of it makes sense anymore anyway. Part of the evil plan.
“Fatgirl? I’m not seeing it.”
Those thighs might make it difficult to hear the stereo, but I wouldn’t complain.
...was that out loud?
The bottom line is money. Screw the content. TPTB knew Batgirl wouldn’t be a success so they shelved it. It’s ALWAYS about money, and they made a smart business move. Unfortunately, they didn’t know this at conception.
I’m still waiting for Ringworld…
In the leftist schema, it is the socialist duty of the movie and TV industry to produce, promote, and fully back the most lame wokist anti-White racist crap 24/7 even in (especially in) the face of clear evidence that the effort will tank horribly.
The nerve of these studios to think that they should earn money. Do they think they were granted these privileges to be *capitalists*?? No.
The purpose of the entertainment industry is systematically destroy the principle of beauty by methodically proceeding through the catalog of human artistic achievement and despoiling each one, towards the goal of the demoralization of the human race.
(Not that ‘batgirl’ is such a mighty achievement in the first place, but thankfully they — so far — rightly fear the reaction should they go far beyond their own fantasy worlds of sci-fi and comics. Amazon intends to take the big leap with their LOTR thing which, I believe, will get the same fate as the “The Prisoner” remake which coincidentally launched right after Patrick McGoohan died and could no longer say no. It aired, it sucked, hardly anyone watched it and the original remains intact.
With respect to this crap article, it’s the same poo-slinging as always. Just throw “ist” at things you don’t like until you get your way.
I remember walking out after about 15-20 minutes and demanding my money back for the POS that film was. The more villains the Batman movies had, the worse they got.
That was back when female celebrities were expected to be waifs.
Today the trend is to normalize women whose lower halves resemble those of rhinoceroses.
Not a chance.
"Blacks" (as a group, and with obvious exceptions) learned the lesson of the misnamed "civil rights movement" very well. The way to wealth, fame, power, and fortune in the New America is not to earn it. It is to whine, and cry, and protest, and demand that government rob White people and give (some of) the proceeds to the blacks who whine, cry, and protest.
I can see how someone might, hypothetically, say that the costume really doesn’t look so good on her. That it would look much better on the floor, next to the bed ...
Neither do I. Apparently, Alicia herself or somebody she knew found somebody somewhere in the world calling her "fatgirl" or "buttgirl" and Alicia talked to the media about it. It wasn't something anybody noticed before that. Even when the story came out the media had enough sense to put "allegedly" in their stories.
Agree! See "Modern Art and the Death of Culture" as a great treatise on your point.
I do. I think it's a masterpiece, even if it deviates a bit from Herbert's vision. The efforts since have been lackluster.
Looks more like a KISS groupie.
Frankly, I think we’d be better off culturally if we ceased new “superhero” films, tv shows, you name it, for the next 50 years. I’m fed up with this endless repeating garbage, which has all been politicized by the Stalinazi degenerates.
The real problem is that there are people out there, you may know some, who actually give a f#ck about comic book characters. Not little kids, oh no, grown men and women a lot of whom even attend gatherings where they dress up in expensive costumes and pretend to be their favorite comic book character. They will actually argue heatedly that one imaginary “super hero” could kick the ass of another imaginary “super hero” on the basis of his or it’s imaginary powers. These people are so immature that if they ever have to confront adversity in the real world, they will never handle it. I’m glad I’m over 70 and won’t have all that much longer to live in a world run by these f#cked up people.
“The idiot comic fans need to grow up.”
Comic fans are not the ones whining about the Batgirl movie getting cancelled, it’s leftists who are whining about it. Try to keep up.
I second that idea and will add two more that I think would make great movies.
The Long Arm of Gil Hamilton by Larry Niven
Lucifer's Hammer by Jerry Pournelle, Larry Niven.
