The End of Private Car Ownership You will drive nothing and you will be happy.

The term "pedestrian" has a derogatory meaning because peasants walked while nobles were "equestrians" and rode horses. The industrial revolution eliminated this class difference, as it did so many others, by making car ownership available to the masses until eventually Herbert Hoover was able to boast that "Republican prosperity has reduced and increased earning capacity” to "put the proverbial 'chicken in every pot' and a car in every backyard to boot."

Democrats have spent two generations trying to get those cars out of every backyard.

Biden is trying to bring back Obama's mileage standards that were estimated to raise car prices by 20%.The goal is to "nudge 40% of U.S. drivers into electric vehicles by decade’s end."

Will 40% of Americans be able to afford electric cars that cost an average of $54,000 by 2030?

Not likely. Nor are they meant to. Biden’s radical ‘green’ government, which includes Tracy Stone-Manning, the former spokeswoman for an ecoterrorist group as the head of the Bureau of Land Management, isn’t looking to nudge drivers into another type of cars, but out of cars.

Gas prices are a way to price Americans out of car ownership under the guise of pushing EVs.

Biden's Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm responded to American concerns about high gas prices by urging them to buy electric cars. Granholm, who had promoted a green energy tycoon who spent years in prison for fraud, who had served on the board of directors of an electric battery company, and made millions divesting stock in an electric vehicle manufacturer, is a fan.

"Most electric vehicles are now cheaper to own than gas-powered cars from the day you drive them off the lot," Granholm tweeted.

Gee, I wonder if that's the reason they want a lot of folks to move into downtown apartments and screw the suburbs. Suburbs only for the elite. You KNOW they're workin' it. As far as jenny jenny......One would have to work extra hard to find this many incompetent folks.

My buddies and I used to drive around and listen to Red Barchetta by Rush.

A totalitarian future in which private ownership of cars is forbidden? Fantastic and unthinkable, or so we thought.

Two things Americans will never give up. Guns and cars.

So what model electric car does Jennifer drive? Or is she just shuttled around in gas-powered limousines?

When you have a government that has grown well beyond any sane limits, this is what you will get, and worse.

So, instead of high priced gas which is making it impossible to afford driving to work & still make a living....now they they just want to put you in an unaffordable car to drive to work. This provides the same results just in a different way.
Biden, Granholm, & several others need to spend some time in a place where they won’t need a car...a good solid prison.

The goal is to "nudge 40% of U.S. drivers into electric vehicles by decade’s end."

The government of a free, constitutional republic has no business trying to "nudge" people. That's the act of a closet tyrant.

Eh they are after the burbs too—they plan to offer grants for multi-unit housing. And how are rural citizens to get around?

Everything is about control/power.

That's always been the goal, get us out of private vehicle ownership and into ride-sharing public transit. This bickering about gas vs. EV is a distraction away from us being treated like cattle. Goal is clustering people into high-rise towers while forcing people to use public transit, and to reclaim land currently used for cars.

As for the question of affordability - Americans will be able to afford EV's in the form of electric bikes, skateboards and similar "EV's".

I agree with this article almost completely, even though my wife and I like our EV. Them forcing us into EV's doesn't make sense in a lot of situations and producing EV's isn't exactly a clean process. And forcing folks to drive EV's make it tough for people living in apartments who can't charge at home.

Although, one thing I'd change in the article is pricing. You can get a 300-mile range (realistically call it about 250-mile range if you use the A/C and drive with a lead foot like I do) Kia EV6 for about $42K. Yes, the average price of EV's is a lot higher, but those include Teslas and very high end cars like Porsche EV's. Add about $4K for charger installation (I suggest installing a 240V/50A outlet in your garage and get a plug-in charger so that you can replace the charger if needed without hiring another electrician, much like you don't need an electrician to replace your 240V electric dryer). So now we're talking $46K. Not too bad IMHO for a car that charges in 20 minutes on the road (with a 350kW charger). And that price is artificially inflated by the $7,500 tax credit (it'd be $38K to $39K without the tax credit).

Don't get me wrong. There are plenty of problems with pushing people to EV's. Most notably a thing called freedom -- the gubment ain't got no business telling us what we can and can't drive. Then there's the grid not being able to support it. And what to do when it's time to dispose all the lithium batteries. But the initial purchase price of an EV is coming down to affordable levels (if you're in the market for a new car anyway). It remains to be seen how cheap a bunch of used EV's will be. It'd be nice if they get cheap like buying a used ICE car.

I recommend we make our argument against government intrusion in our choices by using real and correct information. That means the purchase price of an EV is no longer a valid argument.

We won’t have a choice but to give them up. If gas is ridiculously expensive, and the nearest gas station is 30 miles away, you will give up your car. You will have no choice. They have figured out a way to force us to give up everything they don’t want us to have.

What they really want is to put GPS, breathalyzers and body heat sensors in every vehicle. That will raise the price more than 20%!

GPS already in most cars.

Heat sensors so cheap most public urinals have them.

Breathalyzer online $22.99
