Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is leading his Democratic gubernatorial challenger, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, by 6 percentage points, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
A University of Texas-Texas Politics Project Poll found that 45 percent of Texas registered voters surveyed would vote for Abbott if the election were held that day, compared to 39 percent who would vote for O’Rourke.
A separate 10 percent said they had not thought about it enough to have an opinion, while another 3 percent said they would choose someone else.
Broken down by party, the candidates are the overwhelming favorite within their respective party. Eighty-seven percent of Democrats polled said they would vote for O’Rourke if the election were held that day, while 84 percent of Republicans said they would back Abbott.

6-8 points is a landslide.
Especially in a UT Austin poll.
Ping.
Getting rid of crud....one election at a time!!
39% would vote for Robert Francis? Either it’s a lie or there is something seriously wrong with Texas.
Beeto O’Rourke.
We have had enough leftist Irishman to last a life time, The first one was O’Bama. Now we get O’Rourke?
Lib transplants? A REAL Texan would just as likely give beat-oh a behind the gym moment.
Exactly. This is a disastrous poll for the democrat. He will lose by 12 to 15 points.
And if he signed an Executive Order, Ordering the State Taxing Authorities to immediately LIEN All Monies and Assets of Federal Employee’s in the State to pay for the cost of serving Illegal Aliens. It6 would be a BLOW OUT, even if it was over ruled by tyrants with robes and little hammers.
That 84% is lower than the support Abbott will get from GOP voters on election day - Abbott had significant opposition in the primary and not everyone has “come home” just yet for him - however, these people are certainly not going to vote for Beto O’Rourke. The 87% for O’Rourke on Dems is probably accurate. O’Rourke probably has higher name ID than Abbott himself given his previous high profile Senate race and his Quixotic presidential race. Abbott needs 5% more of the vote and O’Rourke needs 11% more of the vote. In this political environment I certainly don’t see O’Rourke getting that kind of traction.
I get the sense that Greg isn’t rolling the way the Bushies want him to roll. Am I wrong?
It should be 66 points.
I suspect the abortion ruling padded Betos numbers a little.
The only way I can see Beto the Bozo winning is if the Democrats pass out mail-in ballots to all the illegals crossing the border and tell them if they vote for Beto and mail them in they in get a free plane ride to any US city along with a $1000 pre-paid debit card.
Who did they poll? 6 Trans queers in Austin?
There is something seriously wrong with Texas. Everyone from California is moving here and bringing their politics with them.
Lots of snowflake butt hurt since the TX Saint Valentine power fiasco.
Hidden fees added to residential bills are now going out.
It will be closer than we think.
Not that Robert Francis O’Rourke could fix anything, sometimes that doesn’t matter
If Abbott wasn’t such a RINO, he’d be doing better. He’s made a few announcements about doing something about the border for over a year but hasn’t done anything that wasn’t a temporary, “this will get me in the spotlight for a minute”, type of thing.
Had a bunch of state vehicles and some LEO lined up at one spot but as soon as the cameras went away, so did the vehicles and LEO. Spent some money busing illegals to Leftist areas but that was stupid. DeSantis did that too which was disappointing. It’s nothing but a silly stunt that costs taxpayers. Not even a dent in the 2-300k that have come across since the Steal.
“39% would vote for Robert Francis? Either it’s a lie or there is something seriously wrong with Texas.”
Or, there are people that are upset that Abbott doesn’t pass some ideological purity test and say, “Hell, we as well have a democrat! I’m gonna vote Beto to show ‘em!!!!!”
