ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) — A wave of new electric vehicle charging stations across the country is coming as interest in alternatives to gasoline-powered vehicles is on the rise and could heighten further due to a global spike in gasoline prices.
Though most of the plans were in the works before already high gas prices surged because of the war in Ukraine, the timing may work in favor of electric vehicle makers and other proponents of ditching fossil fuels.
From coast to coast, cities big and small are adding charging stations for electric vehicles. Strong demand is forecast for the vehicles, despite their higher prices and limited availability, meaning even more communities will feel pressure to add charging stations or risk having motorists pass them by in favor of plug-in-friendly places.
The publicly funded investments come as gasoline prices in most of the country are above $4 a gallon and significantly more in some spots.
On Monday, New Jersey officials awarded $1 million in grants to install electric vehicle charging stations in 24 tourist areas around the state. The idea was to help spur tourism by reassuring visitors who own electric vehicles that they can come to a vacation spot in New Jersey and not run out of power to get back home.
“Don’t worry about it,” said Joseph Fiordaliso, president of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. “We have the equipment here so that you don’t have to have range anxiety.”

The publicly funded investments are BS!!!
let the market pay for them...
Nice. Use tax dollars from everybody to pay for the “refueling” stations for the rich and their fashionable play toys and status symbols.
Why don’t the libs hate this cross-subsidy from the poor to the rich?
We finally met a live human being that owned an electric vehicle.
We asked them what the range was per full battery charge.
Their answer:
84 miles.
Yikes!
Multiply by .5 for winter conditions requiring heat/defrost and battery “pre-conditioning”.
Dumb question, does one have to pay to use these charging stations? If not, why not?
Isn’t it amazing how they are forcing this crap down our throats without any tests or experiments to see how this would work out? Where are the sample towns? They are just assuming everybody going electric is just going to work out fine and dandy. Well what if it doesn’t? We are in huge trouble then
Because everyone knows if you can’t afford gas for your $17k Hyundai, you surely should just buy a $50k Tesla. Problem solved! /s
Have a couple of cousins who have them. Both big libs.
One was waxing lyrical at a family party at how he loved the “hands free driving”. 🙄🤪
I would never trust anything like that.
It depends.
Some early Teslas got lifetime free juice at their chargers.
I think that went away years ago for more recent purchases.
Some employers offer free juice as an incentive. My buddies daughter works for a large pharma company and she gets free juice at work.
It’s spring break time now and you’re starting to see the pics on Tweater of long lines at the charging stations on popular routes.
I don't remember reading about "public investments" to build gas stations for horseless carriages. That was left to private individuals, and corporations, the likes of Standard Oil, et al.
If the demand is there, people will invest in it to turn a profit. It should not be another ripoff of the taxpayer for the benefit of the few.
I can’t help but wonder how city dwellers that have to cruise around looking for a parking spot will charge their electric cars. Not everyone has their own garage where they can install a charging station.
We’ll count the ones on US 95 between Reno and Vegas during an upcoming road trip.
Kind of like the vaxx...
Part of the socialist plan...
So…how’s that electric bill these days?
Electric cars:
Too expensive.
Unreliable.
Short battery life.
Made with Chinese materials.
PHOOEY!!!!
They have one in our Town...And it’s free...What kind of bullsh** is that.
