Among all the ways that COVID-19 affects our lives, the pandemic confronts us with a profound moral dilemma:
How should we react to the deaths of the unvaccinated?
On the one hand, a hallmark of civilized thought is the sense that every life is precious.
On the other, those who have deliberately flouted sober medical advice by refusing a vaccine known to reduce the risk of serious disease from the virus, including the risk to others, and end up in the hospital or the grave can be viewed as receiving their just deserts.
That’s even more true of those who not only refused the vaccine for themselves, but publicly advocated that others do so.
*** That brings us back to the tenor of the online reaction to the deaths of Ernby and her fellow anti-vaxxers. Some of those who object to the tone of the commentary are merely voicing a variation on the “civility” argument that was commonly raised against critics of the intemperate and inhumane policies of the Trump administration.
As I observed then, pleas for “civility” are a fraud. Their goal is to blunt and enfeeble criticism and distract from its truthfulness. Typically, they’re the work of hypocrites.
*** It may be not a little ghoulish to celebrate or exult in the deaths of vaccine opponents. And it may be proper to express sympathy and solicitude to those they leave behind.
But mockery is not necessarily the wrong reaction to those who publicly mocked anti-COVID measures and encouraged others to follow suit, before they perished of the disease the dangers of which they belittled.
Nor is it wrong to deny them our sympathy and solicitude, or to make sure it’s known when their deaths are marked that they had stood fast against measures that might have protected themselves...

Antoninus wrote: “There is some of that, but not nearly as much as what comes from the other side. They positively exult in the death of the unvaxxed. It’s really pathetic.”
It’s pathetic on both side. And, about equal.
These crazed vaxxers are not nice people, something I’ve already suspected.
I really hate these filthy libs with every fiber of my being. I hope those pukes die of something extremely painful. COVID would be fine, but seeing them in agony would be satisfying.
All good people need to understand that their enemies want them dead and will try to kill them every way that they can.
The world is just as barbaric as it was thousands of years ago.
Perfect distinction.
Many scientists have abandoned scientific methods.
From my perspective the pro jab side was spoiling for a fight to try and show their perceived superior intellect etc… their post were dripping with arrogance and condescension and they got one. I wanted to be respectful of each side but was called a liar by the pro jab pagans about events where I had first hand knowledge.
I know you see this differently as both sides would. The covid lie has brought allies, friends and even family against one another. But untested vaccinations is my hill to die on even if it costs me every friend and family member I have. I didn’t want this fight but the pro jabbers won’t stop with their radical demands and hysteria. Conservatives on here rail against an untrustworthy government and media and yet lap up everything that’s said about covid and suddenly trust a government and healthcare industry that has lied to them repeatedly and get angry with anyone who doesn’t go along with their demands for the jab.
We must agree to disagree where covid and the jab is concerned.
I like to point out people who have died of “covid” that were fully vaccinated, but only to try to make a point that might sway others not to take the kill shot. I don’t mock anyone for it. Most people out there getting the shot are not bad people. Some are even not libs. They are just not the sharpest knives in the drawer. They don’t read or have enough imagination to conceive of the government ever not having their best interests in mind. They are gullible. They think that following every government edict somehow makes them patriotic. They look at doctors and all media proclaimed “experts” as gods whose words must never be challenged. I don’t necessarily feel sorry for them but I am outraged at the great crimes that have been committed against them. Especially their children.
I guess we ain't civilized; with over 62 million future American citizens killed before they were given a chance to take their first breath.
Wow! So much crap in one sentence!
First, "sober" medical advice, in this case is hysterical demand for mandatory participation in a gene therapy experiment.
Second, the vaccine is known to have fast declining efficacy, and there is little evidence being profferred that it has any effect on the seriousness of the disease (how does one prove that?).
Third, a shot in one's arm has NO EFFECT on others, unless the shot gives you some form of communicable disease.
Finally, this guy doesn't know the difference between the Mojave and a banana cream pie!
