For the dozens of [Asian] Indians Theranos employed, the fear of being fired was more than just the dread of losing a paycheck. Most were on H-1B visas and dependent on their continued employment at the company to remain in the country.

BTW George Schultz’s grandson, an employee at Theranos, was the original whistleblower in this case.
Interesting, that angle hadn’t occurred to me. Makes sense though.
Anything “nice” that is done attracts a reaction from the “not so nice.” Doesn’t matter whether the “nice” thing makes sense or not.
All those naive kids going west in 1967 gave rise to Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, and many others in 1969 and on from there.
Yeah, and when he told grandpa what was going on, grandpa chose to believe (Theranos founder) Elizabeth Holmes and gold his grandson to mind his own business and stick to his lab bench.
Old George was on the board. Being in his 90s I’m not sure he was capable of grasping the situation.
When Elizabeth batted her oversize warm blue eyes at him, he was suddenly capable of grasping another situation.
I don’t really have any sympathy for the toils and troubles of H-1Bs. They aren’t here to study, gain expertise that doesn’t exist elsewhere in this country or promote real American values. They are here to scam citizenship, period. Bypass the quotas, lotteries and millions of other more worthy (IMO) aspirants - all for selling themselves to the new technological indentured servitude. And, the ‘scruples’ of not being able to report improprieties? Yeah, sure. Tell that to their cousin phone bank scammers in India...
Student visas and then H-1Bs? We got Sundar Pichai and Parag Agrawal and a couple dozen others like them in Silicon Valley from it....
It should be pointed out that George Shultz joined the Theranos Board of Directors when he was 91 years old.
Shultz was almost 94 when his grandson raised concerns about fraud, Kissinger was 91, and former DOD Secretary William Perry was 87.
Holmes is lucky she did not get charged with elder abuse.
And his Grandfather refused to believe him....
This woman is a psycho and a fraud in every aspect, and many people saw through it, and were ignored.
What is insane to me is if you rob someone of $2,000, you can face up to 13 years in jail.
This woman stole hundreds of millions of dollars from tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people, and her maximum sentence if she is convicted of every charge is only 20 years....
Insanity. She should be as feeble and decrepit as the dementia puppet before she sees the light of day again.
Also, Elizabeth Holmes was "the right person at the right time." All of the enlightened people were so looking for a female Steve Jobs. One just had to be there somewhere, they were certain of it. Elizabeth showed up, said all the right things, and was sort of hot too. That checked all the boxes of the old farts.
Fact that they were famous and once upon a time held very responsible jobs didn't make any difference at all.
The thing that amazes me is that when she showed Schultz and the others her endorsement letters from Pfizer and Merck — which were total frauds and forgeries — why didn't old George just pick up the phone and call the CEO of Pfizer and ask him if this was for real? Would have taken five minutes. I bet Pfizer's CEO would have taken a call from Reagan's Secretary of State.
I'm sure George Schultz knows someone who could get the private phone number of any CEO in the country.
Not if you have a Soros prosecutor.
In California and New York City, you do not even have to post bond for a $2,000 theft.
At least Elizabeth Holmes was found guilty on 4 counts of fraud. She *could* get 80 years of prison time. But her boyfriend/husband is maga wealthy so probably not.
Btw Tyler Schultz was friends with my son so I got a preview of what was happening In real time. The kid has got grit.
