Buttigieg: Families who buy electric vehicles 'never have to worry about gas prices again'
The Hill ^ | November 29, 2021 | Maureen Breslin

Posted on 11/29/2021 9:49:01 AM PST by karpov

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stressed in a new interview that families who buy electric vehicles (EVs) "never have to worry about gas prices again."

While speaking on MSNBC's "The Sunday Show With Jonathan Capehart," Buttigieg noted that Democrats' proposed social spending package includes incentives to make it more affordable to buy an electric vehicle.

Buttigieg said that families would essentially have a "$12,500 discount" in transportation costs, adding that "families who own that vehicle will never have to worry about gas prices again."

"The people who stand to benefit most from owning an EV are often rural residents who have the most distances to drive, who burn the most gas, and underserved urban residents in areas where there are higher gas prices and lower income," Buttigieg said.

"They would gain the most by having that vehicle. These are the very residents who have not always been connected to electric vehicles that are viewed as kind of a luxury item," he added.

"If we can make the electric vehicle less expensive for everybody, more people can take advantage, and we'll be selling more American-made EVs, which means in time they'll become less expensive to make and to buy for everybody," Buttigieg said.

Buttigieg's comments come after the Department of Energy announced last week that it would release 50 million barrels of oil from the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an effort to control rising gas prices.

Yeah... but that electric car charger is going to make your AC unit look like a ceiling fan on your electric bill.

I’ve read some analysis that says the ChiComs are going to electric cars powered by hundreds of new coal power plants to conserve petroleum for their military.

I have a feeling Buttigieg knows exactly what he’s doing and he’s saying this knowing the media won’t challenge him on these remarks.

He knows fossil fuels still factor into energy production, but will feign surprise when there are blackouts resulting from regulations enacted by the Biden regime.

Sure, Mayor Peter Eater.

To make sure the super-heavy electric trucks get charged, why not also mandate installation of portable solar panels on the bottom of the truck bed? [/climate cretinism]

Yes you can save enough on gas to make an EV “free”, but you need enough cash flow to front the $30,000 minimum before any rebates & savings kick in and add up over years … and likewise add on ~$50,000 for home solar to avoid the rise in electricity grid cost when majority of supply is phased out because its coal-generated.

His remarks reveal just how poorly leftists understand basic economics. Of course that is to be expected— in a police state command economy, the state doesn’t have to contend with obsolete things like market forces, supply and demand.

I doubt there are any such surety bonds for cobalt, copper, nickel, magnesium, or lithium mines.

The elite climate-cretins don't care. Most of those mines are in countries that don't give a rat's patootie about the environment.

He is right, they would not have to worry about gas prices. Just wait till they open up their electricity bill and it’s $4000.00 per month. They will shell out thousands when they take it for repair.

One of their talking points is that “most EVs will be charged at night when demand is low.” It is also when solar drops to zero and usually winds abate after sundown. It is possible they could muscle the population into buying a lot of EVs, but the whole net-zero thing will always remain a meaningless expensive pipe dream.

No but, their electric bills are going to be insane as those prices are only going up. If in CA then they’re really screwed as the idiots in charge keep turning off the power grids. I have a friend in Southern CA who’s electricity was stopped right in the middle of cooking Thanksgiving dinner!
