ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The board of the Alaska Railroad has voted unanimously to rescind a requirement for all of its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Initially, railroad employees were supposed to be vaccinated by Dec. 8 to comply with vaccine requirements ordered by President Joe Biden that, in part, required vaccination for employees of contractors doing business with the federal government. The railroad is a federal contractor, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
An email sent to railroad employees last Friday said the railroad must meet the standard. But Tuesday’s board decision followed legal challenges that have been filed elsewhere seeking to block the federal mandate, Alaska Railroad spokesperson Tim Sullivan said.
Sullivan said nearly 53% of the railroad’s 692 employees are vaccinated.
Failure to comply with the vaccine mandate could cost the state-owned corporation millions of dollars in federal grants and contracts, and the space it leases from the U.S. Forest Service in Anchorage, Sullivan said.
Board members expressed reluctance to require vaccinations.

Ping.
Surprising to me since they operate largely in Canada and Canada is more nazi than we are.
Hope many more such contractors will grow some balls and tell Uncle Biden to shove it.
The Alaska Railroad is owned by the state of Alaska and is considered a lifeline for the state in moving materials, especially during the Winter months
They’ve crossed a line with their employees who are likely to treat management going forward as the Pfascists they exposed themselves as.
I guess that even though they traverse Canada they must not be subject to Canadian Law.
Herr Trudeau must hate that…
Losing half your railroad employees should not be a problem. I mean it's super easy to run a 4,300 hp diesel EMD SD70MAC. Why you don't even need to steer!
Alaska Railroad operates in.....Alaska
Hey, if the railroad doesn’t comply, the federal government will be really angry, and they will shift all of their work to ... to ... they’ll shift the work to ... that ... that other railroad.
I say the federal government has less power than it thinks. Like with Boeing or Lockheed. Yes: they will comply. But why bother? Can the military decide that they just won’t do business with Boeing or Lockheed? Not likely.
The Federal government is very aware their power comes from aligning with some in order to abuse others. It's exactly why they wanted the 17th Amendment (direct election of Senators) and the unconstitutional Income Tax.
It makes perfect sense.
Alaska is a place where you get a peculiar mix of libertarian and conservative values: Pro-gun, but pro-abortion; pro-defense, but pro pot.
You have the US South, West, Texas, Hawaii, and Alaska which all sort of have their own culture. Alaska is full of folks that want to get away, love their guns, hunting, pot, snow mobiles... “freedom.” There is a reason why you'll see a mailbox on the roadside, and next to it a dirt road leading into what appears nowhere (someone lives out there). It was one of the last states to make pot illegal, and one of the first to legalize it again - even though it's a huge pro-hunting, gun, oil and defense state.
“Mandating” that folks get vaccinated is NOT going to go over well in Alaska. I'm sure they would lose a lot of their employees.
There is no vaccination mandate.
Random words out of the Dementia Patient’s mouth do not carry the force of law, and there is no EO.
Plus many there are not going to be told what they can and cannot do.
Not a bit like Oregon, Washington, Calif. folks.....Or most of the country...FWIW-
Cheers to see this....
Uncle Brandon.....the POS!!
I hope Southwest Airlines takes note of this.
The mandate will be rescinded by all eventually…but it will cause much hardship and gnashing of teeth until then…
“ There is no vaccination mandate.”
There is for federal contractors.
Really?! Alaska Railroad tracks don't come anywhere near Canada.
