WASHINGTON — The most powerful part of President Biden’s climate agenda — a program to rapidly replace the nation’s coal- and gas-fired power plants with wind, solar and nuclear energy — will likely be dropped from the massive budget bill pending in Congress, according to congressional staffers and lobbyists familiar with the matter.
Senator Joe Manchin III, the Democrat from coal-rich West Virginia whose vote is crucial to passage of the bill, has told the White House that he strongly opposes the clean electricity program, according to three of those people. As a result, White House staffers are now rewriting the legislation without that climate provision, and are trying to cobble together a mix of other policies that could also cut emissions.
A White House spokesman, Vedant Patel, declined to comment on the specifics of the bill, saying, “the White House is laser focused on advancing the president’s climate goals and positioning the United States to meet its emission targets in a way that grows domestic industries and good jobs.”
A spokeswoman for Mr. Manchin, Sam Runyon, wrote in an email, “Senator Manchin has clearly expressed his concerns about using taxpayer dollars to pay private companies to do things they’re already doing. He continues to support efforts to combat climate change while protecting American energy independence and ensuring our energy reliability.”

First in with “How dare you!”-—Greta.
President Trump had it right....You use every source available.
I would hope McConnell is working overtime in trying to recruit Manchin and Sinema to join the Repubs.
Two democrat senators are all that are now stopping America from becoming a socialist utopia like Venezuela.
May God save the United States of America.
Can't wait for 2022.
I’d like to see both of them switch parties and end this drive by the Dems to destroy our country.
It would work in their favor. Sinema may get primaried anyway. West Virginia is a red state. So Manchin could say that he had never left the Democratic Party. The Party left him.
I'd like to see a lot of things that are never going to happen.
How they vote matters, which branch of the uniparty they belong to doesn’t.
Manchin and sinema are both fairly left wing….they are just posturing for the voters
So is Vedant Patel the weekend chief liar, so Psaki can rest up for a fresh week or snottiness and lies?
Vile child. Will never have a male mate.
bttt
Sinema can’t win a Republican primary in AZ, a 100% pro-abortion who voted to convict Trump? Come on. People on the left seem to think she just wants to cash out as a lobbyist or corporate board member and won’t even run again, big pharma LOVES her. I honestly don’t know what her deal is but she’s far from even Susan Collins/Lisa Murkowski level. She’s....I don’t know a rat version of John McCain. Weird weird chick, she started as a Green to the left of the rat party. Likes attention, obviously, she has it now. She’d be in trouble in a rat primary but still would have a much much better chance there arguing that some far-left Hispanic isn’t electable.
Manchin would have a slim chance in a GOP primary only because of what a good ole’ boy state WV is and half the Republicans used to be rats 10 years ago, but he’d still certainly lose unless he apologized to Trump for voting to convict and begged for his endorsement and all other top-tier candidates gave him a pass. I don’t see it, if there was a chance he’d switch he would have long before now. We’re getting his seat in 2024 regardless. Hopefully the prick sticks to his guns on the filibuster.

Wind, solar and nuclear.......Can we get off of calling wind and solar renewables, clean and green? They are anything but that.....the most appropriate term is the ‘random unreliable’. As for nukes, they don’t turn up and down to match demand....they are reliable but they are the inflexibles.
Thank you.
Now we’re getting somewhere. Not a good idea for them to cross little Greta.
