ATLANTA (AP) — Jimmy Carter is sometimes called a better former president than he was president.
Nodding to Carter’s decades of work as a globe-trotting humanitarian but with a glaring reminder of his landslide defeat in 1980, the backhanded compliment rankles Carter allies and, they say, the former president himself.
Yet now, 40 years removed from the White House, the most famous resident of Plains, Georgia, is riding a new wave of attention as biographers, filmmakers, climate activists and Carter’s fellow Democrats push to recast his presidential legacy, even as Republicans sometimes try to remind voters of the volatile economy and international affairs that doomed Carter to one term.
The renewed spotlight is especially significant for the broad swath of Americans too young to remember a presidency that spanned from 1977 to 1981. Sandwiched between the Watergate era of Richard Nixon and two terms of Ronald Reagan, Carter’s tenure came before Millennials or Generation Z voters were born and earlier than most of Generation X reached political awareness.

Except Trump of course.
It’s just because Sleepy Joe is making him look good by comparison.
Jimmy Carter is sometimes called a better former president than he was president. …Not by me. Certainly not since Peace Not Apartheid.
At least in Carter’s time the USSR was invading Afghanistan, and taking their lumps, not us, but that was not Carter’s doing.
Marxists rewrite history during their takeovers.
Just because Biden is even worse, doesn’t make Jimmy good.
But history is written by the winners: Biden is in the White House — so Jimmy Carter must be totally awesome!!!!
Yes America has fallen so far that the Carter era is looking like the good ole days.
Peanut head gave us 40 years of Iranian terror. The Shah was one of the US’s staunchest allies.
Somone needs to post a pic of WInston Smith (played by John Hurt) at his desk doing historical revisioning.
>>I would take Carter over diaper head right now.<<
That is like saying you want the best yodeler in Harlem.
The Biden presidency is Jimmy Carter’s second term ...
They may try and change his image but for those of us who had to live under his “leadership” it won’t matter.
He sucked big time from his failure to get back our people held hostage in Iran for over a year (Reagan had them back within days of his inauguration), to his spineless handling of the Arab oil embargo (his advice was to put on an extra sweater and turn down thermostat to 60 degrees) he was the weakest leader we ever had until we had the bad fortune to see Obama elected and now Biteme.
It is these last two which will, if anything will, make Carter be seen in a more favorable light.
Similiar. He had Billy, Biden has Hunter. He had the Iran hostages and Biden will have his in Afghanistan, Add high fuel prices, inflation, and malaise. Will interest rates follow? Also importantly we had Reagan and now we’ve got Trump.
Thanks to the illegal alien from Kenya and Joe Dementia Carter is now only the third worse president of the USA.
If anymore democrats are able to steal the presidency Carter has a good chance of moving up even further from the bottom.
In some ways I think Carter gets a bad rap. I’ve long said that the economic malaise of the mid to late 1970s was the inevitable result of the fiscal irresponsibility of the Johnson and Nixon administrations.
He was better than china joe. Or the kameltoe ho. Or the nazi next in line after the ho.
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
