The U.S. Navy's leadership has drawn a lot of criticism for its wokester focus as its mission goes fallow.
Now we're seeing this report:
Just before a fire started on a warship that burned for nearly five days in San Diego last summer, a witness told investigators he saw a fellow sailor — known to his leadership for showing disdain toward the Navy — walking to the spot where the blaze first ignited.
Ryan Sawyer Mays, a 20-year-old from Kentucky, carried a metal bucket into the vessel’s lower storage area, according to new court documents identifying him as the person accused of destroying the amphibious assault ship Bonhomme Richard. Navy officials announced last week that a sailor had been charged with aggravated arson and willful hazarding of a vessel in connection to the July 2020 fire, but they did not publicly identify the suspect.
Mays is not only accused of intentionally setting the blaze, but also of tampering with fire-safety equipment on the ship and crime-scene evidence in an attempt to hinder the federal investigation, according to documents filed in the Southern California U.S. District Court and unsealed Tuesday.

He’s not out.
This POS is going to prison for a very long time.
If he was diagnosed as bipolar by the Navy and was not in the process of being discharged, somebody screwed up. If he was diagnosed as bipolar and the recruiter knew, someone should be screwed but won’t be. Don’t believe for one moment a recruiter would not still put him in if he could. I dealt with a handful of people whose mental capacity was severely diminished before they entered the Navy. Once they make it to the fleet, the easiest way to get rid of them is general discharge not compatible with military service. But a diagnosis of bipolar should have been cause for a medical discharge. Bipolar should have been caught in basic and SEAL screening.
I had a Sailor whose own parents said they we’re stunned the Navy accepted him. Mother warned the recruiter. He made it through basic, his sea school and only had two years left on his contract when I got him. He did absolutely nothing to warrant a bad conduct discharge. Doctors refused to recommend a medical discharge. He was like a child, we had to assign people to make sure he showered daily. A senior enlisted made sure he never got orders to a ship and he spent his career mowing lawns. The VA took over his mental health care when he was discharged. Once they make it to the fleet, except in rare cases, taxpayers now own their medical care for life. That period in the Navy was about as normal as his life would ever be. I gave his recruiters name to BUPERS, his command was notified, but he claimed plausible deniability.
Public execution...
John McCain did pretty much the same thing to the USS Forestfire and he was almost president except for the halfrican fag from Mombasa
UCMJ has strict guidelines for what can be legally done to him. A lot of people join, then hate the life. Most serve out their contract, those who act out their disdain are dealt with.
This is the kind of crap I think of when people call for two year mandatory military service. Apart from the outright stupidity of doubling the size of the military just to instill disciple in today’s snowflakes, you fill the ranks of volunteers with malcontents with an axe to grind.
FTN
Morale Check!
Sabotage must be punished by death lest it happen again
No that is one way into prison for a great many years, a dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and reduction to the lowest enlisted grade at a General Courts-Martial.
Well, back in our day that would be true. Touchy feely today, despite the UCMJ, so who knows. Probably can’t do blanket parties or scrub brush cleaning any more either.
.....sadly, you are probably right on the money... I enlisted less than two weeks after turning 17 as a snot-nosed brat, and got off active duty four years later as a more mature, 21-year-old E-5.... grew up fast in them thar days....but, yeah, we did our share of BMC (Bitchin’ Moanin’ and Complainin’)....not Boatswains Mate Chief...LOL
Maybe PMS.
Same with the Army. Every damned E4 and below I ever knew bitched about something. Usually the food. That was funny as most of them didn’t have a bed to sleep in and was on welfare with 12 other kids and an unwed mother, and maybe one meal a day, that at school, well maybe two since most schools now serve breakfast and lunch meals. But, then mama goes out on a date to have kid #13 and leaves the 12 at home alone till the morning. Yup, some real unhappiness by a bunch THAT HAD TO SIGN THE ENLISTMENT PAPERS!!! Didn’t a damned one of them get drafted!!
I despise McCain, he was a condescending, arrogant f**k. But, he did not start the USS Forrestal fire with a wet start of his A-4. I have watched the video at least a thousand times in damage control training. A rocket from across the flight deck hit the plane next to his. You can clearly see the rocket skip across the deck and McCain jumping out of his cockpit and running from the explosions.
Despised McCain, for a lot of reasons the Forrestal fire is not one of them. If his daddy covered for him it was hiding the fact he was a shitty pilot.
My friend works for a neurologist herein OKC and they have a govt contract to conduct EXIT / Washout interviews with women and boys that bitch and moan enough to get out of their enlisted contracts while still in boot camp. These people get out in boot camp with 50% of their GI benefits. Unfreaking believable that we the taxpayers get shit on by the government because these pussies can’t do a freaking pull up. Kids are fat, weak and stupid nowadays
“John McCain did pretty much the same thing to the USS Forestfire???”
It’s Forrestal, and that story is a myth.
“Don’t forget the Iowa explosion.”
Seems like everyone’s forgetting this one:
