Let’s start at the beginning — “1776,” that is. This 1972 musical based on the Broadway show of the same name recounts the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Think “Hamilton” without hip-hop music.

Of course, while I agree with Mr Zachary Clary's facts, I almost totally disagree with his interpretations and reasoning. Nonetheless, this movie does well in showing the problems with getting all 13 Colonies [Future States] to agree on an UNANIMOUS 'Declaration of Independence' from the global near-hegemony of Great Britain!
Recommended viewing at any time but especially NOW!
1776 is a fun movie.
To save having to click through, the seven movies are:
-1776
-Captain America
-Independence Day
-The Patriot
-Yankee Doodle Dandy
-Hidden Figures
-The American President
I saw 1776 as a musical by a University in the ‘80s, it was pretty good!
John Trumbull's 1818 painting ‘Declaration of Independence’ (1818), now on display at the US Capitol building, shows the Declaration Committee of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman presenting the Declaration to the Continental Congress.
Thanks, I should have added this, you corrected my lapse.
Living within earshot of the cannons’ roar at Gettysburg the July viewing schedule:
July 2 = Gods and Generals
July 3 = Gettysburg
July 4 = 1776
Yankee Doodle Dandy is a great, patriotic film. The ending when Cagney walks down the stairs, tap dances halfway down, and then resumes walking is perhaps the second greatest dance scene of all time in a film.
great movies
.

I’m going to watch it tonight...thanks for the reminder!
That's giving it way too much credit.
I put “The Crossing” up near the top of the list. Good to remember that if it were not for Washington’s Crossing of the Delaware and the subsequent victories at Trenton and Princeton NJ, there never would have been a United States to begin with. The British were within weeks of victory in their colonies until those 10 fateful days changed the world forever. The Hessian officer Johann von Ewald wrote at the time, that after Trenton and Princeton he knew the war was lost.
Yes -1776
No -Captain America
No -Independence Day
Maybe -The Patriot
Maybe -Yankee Doodle Dandy
No -Hidden Figures
No -The American President
Yankee Doodle Dandy is a great, patriotic film. The ending when Cagney walks down the stairs, tap dances halfway down, and then resumes walking is perhaps the second greatest dance scene of all time in a film.
According to TCM Cagney ad-libbed the tap dance.
The movie was filled with so many inaccuracies that according to legend, George M. Cohan asked whose life the movie was about. But he liked the movie and James Cagney.
I watch the HBO miniseries John Adams every year, finished it up yesterday. Starring Paul Giamatti, yes a Tom Hanks production but excellent.
Admittedly, I haven’t seen them all, but not a great list:
1776 - OK; not woke or anti-American, but a little boring with forgettable music
Captain America - haven’t seen, but it’s modern-day Marvel; is it really that much better than the other Marvel garbage?
Independence Day - OK, but of course they had to go all “we are the world” with the ending.
The Patriot - OK, but it’s Mel Gibson at his hokiest
Yankee Doodle Dandy - haven’t seen; would like to
Hidden Figures - haven’t seen; some black women are the “real heroes” of the space program? Whatever.
The American President - complete leftist wishful thinking.
Gettysburg or a decent WWII movie would be better.
“Sid down, John! Sit down John! For God’s sakes John, SIT DOWN!”
Patton
I watch this every fourth as well. The history is solid and the music is singable
I’m good with two of them
