A couple of instructive videos and a book on the topic are referenced. https://youtu.be/FyY_oJKs6Ls https://youtu.be/lkbcT6Mr1NY https://amzn.to/3hxIJO3
If the author had used ‘fall of the American Republic” it would have been more apt.
Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009 when ALL of our elected AND appointed refused to uphold the Constitution and swore in the ineligible Kenyan from Indonesia.
False
>>as we transition out of the industrial age, and into the information age.
The industrial age will not end as long as production of raw materials into products are needed and consumed. And that includes processing of food (animal, vegetable, and chemical).
When I was studying International Relations a couple decades ago, some paradigms were talking the end of the nation state system. Did not happen. Seemingly, some are still talking and projecting the nonsense.
Information does not change culture, religion, legal expectations, or leadership power.
Nations do not exist because information was not available, and information cannot and will not change the above expectations.
Nation-states....... BS
America has been killed by the left wing and seriously Africanized city States. The tyranny of the city states is now complete and will probably continue until there is a war of revolution
You noticed it too.
You cannot get or keep national sovereignty without the political and cultural will to do so
Neal Stephenson has written a number of science fiction novels that revolve around the idea of "distributed republics" which provide citizenship based on shared values and no significant ties to geographic locations.
I would like to see a very pluralistic de-centralized system. I had thought that our Republic would serve us well, but I consider that to have fallen. A good, but failed experiment. What we really need to do is avoid a horrid One World Government solution. The idea of private city states or virtual governments may have some merit. Obviously a Second Amendment type of deal is required so that outside aggression can be cost prohibitive.
People crave power and wealth.
Power and wealth come from control over others.
The Great Reset is about consolidating many nation-states into one large nation-state, with a “social contract” that will be written online via citizen submissions.
The author believes nation states will deteriorate away.
No.
They will consolidate and become large nation-states.
Western nations (North American and Europe)
Eastern nations (China, Russia and Asia)
Muslim nations (Africa and Middle East)
Three large nation-states that will end up fighting it out for world dominance.
Or 1453 when the Eastern empire “fell”.
Even well after 476 you could find places such as in Spain where you had working baths, waterworks, municipal government, games. 476 was merely the end of “Italians (there really being no such thing at the time) being kings in Ravenna.
The nation state as an idea is already dead. Being a nation used to mean a shared language, history, and faith.
Japan is the only country in the world that still believes that is what defines a nation.
May 29, 1453 is when the last little bit of the Roman Empire fell.
Byzantium, Forever and Ever!
Even a hard drive is partitioned into discrete and functionally useful aggregates.
If Bob can wake up and declare he is Sue, then it logically follows that we can wake up and declare we are citizens of some other more free, lower tax state.
IMHO we lost our Republic when we decided on having an empire.
As with Rome, a Republican form of government works well for a somewhat homogeneous population in a mostly contiguous area, but once you start trying to control overseas areas and very different peoples, many of whom might not really be thrilled about being controlled from afar, a form of government effectively dependent upon almost everyone being in at least rough agreement as to principles, priorities and culture ceases to work.
Some say it was the only option to fight the USSR, but really, once we took the Philippines and asserted our hegemony over South America we could no longer really be a country of English Speaking ‘yeoman farmers’ wherein everyone had ‘skin in the game’.
800 military bases in 80 countries is an empire, for good or ill.
This is one of the dumbest, most out of touch articles I have read in a while.
You think your virtual government is going to protect you from the Chinese army or drug cartels? Really?
You think that Virtual Governments operating like insurance companies have your best interest at heart and will never abuse their customers. When they do who are you going to turn to for redress?
Threaten to leave? They will take your money first and won’t care if you leave.
An organization can only grow so large when the people at the top are trying to directly control the people at the bottom. This is why there are echelons of control in companies. The CEO of Ford doesn’t spend time watching employee time cards.
Yet govts are stupid enough to think that they can ignore this law of organization. The US Govt only got in trouble when it decided to directly intervene in people’s lives... income tax, welfare programs, nationalized healthcare etc.
The idea that a global govt can directly control everyone on Earth is incredibly stupid, no matter how much technology they might deploy. The end result will be disaster... a global North Korea.
