Texas Senate approves 'constitutional carry'

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas would allow people to carry a handgun without a license, and the background check and training that go with it, under a measure approved by the state Senate on Wednesday.

Texas already has some of the loosest gun laws in the country and has more than 1.6 million handgun license holders. Lawmakers have reduced classroom and shooting range training requirements over the last decade, but had been reluctant to eliminate the license requirement altogether.

“Honest cops these days tell people that refusing to speak without a lawyer is not indicative of guilt as it was considered in the Prime Boomer Era and before. These days it is indicative that the person isn’t an idiot and doesn’t want to be hit with a process charge or similar when they didn’t do anything wrong.”

I feel that if anyone, and I mean anyone, who would voluntarily answer the questions or make statements to the police, in these corrupt times, should have a good case for insanity.

They can get you for the slightest erroneous statement for, ‘lying to the police,’ even if you simply remembered something not exactly the way that they think that you ‘should have’ remembered it.

If you choose to tell the truth then you open yourself to the wrath of the police. It is a no-win situation for anyone to answer their questions.

“ Texas already has some of the loosest gun laws in the country...”

Considering that 20 other states have already passed constitutional carry and Texas is currently one of the few states with state laws restricting open carry, that is manifestly untrue.

Yeah, it was a Mosin Nagant but I could never spell it. It was stolen before I graduated HS. It kicked like a mule with a steel butt plate. 7.62x51 is a .308 I had on my mind.

In Louisiana, either the local DAs and LEOs will look the other way and do it anyway should it come to it (if you don’t think that could happen, look at what’s happening with COVID-justified “decline to prosecute” BS) or it will be the Feds doing it using seized LA state information plus Federal databases.

Well, you do have to answer them eventually or they can hit you with obstruction of justice charges. But answering any police questions beyond your name and contact info without a lawyer? Hell no.

After a shooting incident, you should follow police instructions on putting the gun down and be taken into custody. After that, your mantra to any question beyond your name and contact info (and the contact info for your lawyer) should be, “I don’t feel well, I think I need medical attention. I will only answer further questions after I have been seen by a doctor and only with the assistance of my lawyer.”

Uh, a Background Check is done when you purchase a Firearm through an FFL.

I live in MS which has had Constitutional Carry for years.
I still applied for and received a Conceal Carry Permit so I could Carry in other States that have Reciprocity.

The best thing about it is I can go buy a new Gun at the local FFL, fill out the Paperwork (just like Hunter Biden did) and walk out with my purchase without having to wait around for a redundant Background Check.

I don’t believe it will. When the Katrina confiscations took place, it raised a HUGE stink throughout the rest of the state. Local officials can’t keep it quiet tightly enough to keep it from becoming known.

As to the Feds, I don’t know enough about current law. With Katrina, the NatGuard was enforcing local mandates on behalf of local authorities, which is, under Louisiana law, no longer possible.

Standing by for the Harris/Biden Department of Just Us to challenge the law and an Osama Obama appointee to strike down.
