In Louisiana, either the local DAs and LEOs will look the other way and do it anyway should it come to it (if you don’t think that could happen, look at what’s happening with COVID-justified “decline to prosecute” BS) or it will be the Feds doing it using seized LA state information plus Federal databases.
I don’t believe it will. When the Katrina confiscations took place, it raised a HUGE stink throughout the rest of the state. Local officials can’t keep it quiet tightly enough to keep it from becoming known.
As to the Feds, I don’t know enough about current law. With Katrina, the NatGuard was enforcing local mandates on behalf of local authorities, which is, under Louisiana law, no longer possible.
