Monday, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” reacted to former President Donald Trump having a microphone set up at Mar-a-Lago with a band to entertain and speak to crowds. “Never Trump” network contributor Charlie Sykes agreed with host Joe Scarborough that there is a “personality cult” problem in the GOP after Trump entered the fray. He argued that “Ronald Reagan couldn’t win a primary in the Republican Party these days” because of how much the party has changed into “blind loyalty” for Trump.

What is MSNBC?
MSNBS
All the things that Charlie used to fight for and express here in Milwaukee were tossed aside when he was given the opportunity to go and join the never trumpers and the left...
Generally cutting off all of the relationships you had to join up with a small group and living in your own little world would put you squarely in the ranks of the actual cultist Charlie.
He argued that “Ronald Reagan couldn’t win a primary in the Republican Party these days” because of how much the party has changed into “blind loyalty” for Trump.
All that is just a way to use the conservative comment of a short while ago that JFK couldn’t win a primary in the present day democrat party...
With Reagan v Trump, we get one of two best leaders.
Any two Rats, you are in the bottom 5%
Anyone to the right of karl marx cant win in the dem party. So what is his point?
If ANY conservative were to have a primary problem, not just Reagan, it’s because of the ‘Rat and Cabal damage to our political system.
All the paper cuts over decades - open primaries, RCV, attacks on the EC, mail-in ballots, early voting, same-day registration, the ‘Dead’, dominion voting, SOS project, infiltration of SCOTUS at the top, thru everything at the bottom, 1619 project, and on and on.
Millions of people are looking for a pro-America ideology, not a personality.
The GOP, for the most part, is not interested in a pro-America ideology. Which pretty much leaves us with Trump. But that’s not really because of his personality. I do like him because he is a fighter — but the really key piece is that he’s fighting for the right ideology.
The establishment cronies didn’t want Ronald Reagan to win in 1980 either
Why post MSM BS?
This from the party that practically invented the Cult of Personality in American politics. Jackson, Wilson, FDR, Kennedy, Carter and Obama.
Dumb analogy as they were leading in different times under different circumstances yet both were properly positioned to do so.
That said, Reagan’s ability to communicate effectively, to break down the Left’s positions in such a way as to position them as both ridiculous and anti-American and his vision and wisdom would transcend any time.
And JFK, FDR, Old Hickory and Thomas Jefferson couldnt win the Dem nomination today.
Could Hubert Humphrey win in the Democratic Party these days?
Nature abhors a vacuum. If the GOP had been standing up and fighting for its base Trump would not have been necessary. If the GOPe wants Trump to go away then start taking the concerns of your base seriously and start fighting for them.
The dems have cults.
Projection.
There is something to Trump’s personality being a reason for his popularity, but I didn’t see any other personalities taking up those issues. I still don’t outside of a handful of governors and House Reps.
Reagan would do poorly today if he ran on winning the Cold War (already did) and offering amnesty to illegals (already did, and it was his biggest mistake). I think Reagan would still do quite well on social issues. How were his stances on abortion and gun control out of step with today’s GOP? Well, he actually meant them and was willing to fight for them. So does Trump.
