I received this letter from my friend (actually, my best man in the 1980s) on election day and I have not yet responded. It's probably a wasted effort, but if anyone has any words of wisdom I can impart to the guy, feel free to comment. Thanks.
"My depression has everything to do with the damage that has been done to this country in the last 4 years. I’ve been driven from the Republican party because of what it has become and the principles it has abandoned. I now have no choice except country over party. I wish it had not come to this.
I have to sift through a lot of news sources these days to get the truth-Fox, the Guardian, CNN, the Atlantic and a dozen others. Facebook is spreading lies and hate. And I listen to what the president has to say. What I see is: A man who wants to divide the country, who mocks people, who is only interested in himself. What gives me hope is all of the groups that have sprung up to oppose him in this election: Veterans, evangelicals, ex-republicans, officials that have served in this and previous republican administrations. It may not be enough, but it gives me hope that we have not completely descended into nationalism.
Thanks for reading this and trying to understand where I coming from. I just hope the country can reach back to find its core greatness, which I think is the ability for all of us to see ourselves as Americans first and value all of our countrymen (and women)-even those we disagree with. I’m a McCain republican (if there is such a thing)- I can respect and work with a democrat without demonizing them.
Here’s hoping our country can heal. Our leaders will never be perfect. We just have to vote like our country depends on it.

Yup—the mass media has created a national mental health crisis!
If the vote was rigged, then there has been a coup....not by Democrats nor Republicans....but by another party, perhaps in conjunction with others.
If that coup is true, then there will never be another free election in this nation. Our votes will not matter any longer and will be just for show.
A thorough investigation and independent audit (like what they do in Utah) is required to restore election integrity.
We conducted multiple, overlapping and deep investigations into the possibility that Russia colluded with a presidental campaign.
Isn’t this worthy of a similar investigation?

If you choose to do anything, I’d focus on what ‘principles’ have been abandoned and direct attention to the facts that republican principles had been abandoned for over a decade until Donald delivered on almost all. Lower taxes, no wars, reduced impact of liberal globalism, border management, return of federalism and state controls, lower regulation. Then focus on what single republican principle is advanced by the democrats now entering power. He’s been hoodwinked.
A Patriot ALWAYS puts country over party. Always.
Tell him to honestly look at where our country went from 2088 to 2016, then compare that to where the country went from 2016 to 2020 (before the Corona virus)...Tell him to honestly look at the economy, the employment, the employment of minorities, expansion of U.S owned businesses, the change from fuel purchaser to fuel provider...

Trump has been the quiet strong leader we needed and still need....
he has brokered peace agreements, brought back millions of jobs to our shores, stood up to Nafta, gave us a roaring economy, and we are safer than we ever were....
there have been no crates of US money being sent to Iran....
and ask your friend this....its true that for some time the rich have gotten richer while the middle class has shrunk and the poor have remained poor....
yet WHY have all the filthiest rich people in this country want Trump out?....its quid pro quo....they've had a cool system of robbing American shores and they want it back...
if you're friend can't understand that, you need a new friend...
