Northeast Philly, while it has diversified somewhat over the past two decades is in many ways the Staten Island of Philadelphia, albeit with fewer Italians.

Post WWII housing boom. Huge tracts of farmland turned into nice homes. Plenty of jobs too. A lot of manufacturing and service industry. Then all the ethnic bakeries, clothing shops, small banks, butcher shops, authentic old school deli, and retail to support the communities.

The riff raff wasn't welcome unless it's changed. Which it would seem not to have as we see.
