Yahoo News/YouGov poll: Trump loses support among 3 key demographics after debate, COVID-19 diagnosis
Yahoo.com ^ | 10/6/20 | Andrew Romano

One of the main reasons Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election is voters who disapproved of both Trump and his rival, Hillary Clinton, broke for Trump by about 18 percentage points.

"In the abstract, it’s something of a statistical quirk," the Washington Post's Philip Bump recently explained. "In practice, though, it might have given Trump the White House."

In contrast, Trump's party lost control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections due mainly to large numbers of voters who cast ballots for Trump just two years earlier switched sides and voted for Democrats — particularly college-educated white women.

Now, in a troubling sign for Trump's 2020 chances, all three groups — voters who disapprove of both candidates; voters who cast ballots for different parties in 2016 and 2018; and college-educated white women — are moving in Joe Biden's direction.

By partnering with YouGov to track the views of 13 key demographic groups (suburban voters, Latino voters, white seniors) across nine important metrics (vote intention, Trump approval, direction of the country), Yahoo News has identified a significant shift away from Trump over the last week — a period in which the president delivered a poorly received debate performance and was hospitalized with COVID-19.

Listen to dan Bongino the day after the debate. There are no undecideds. Anything now is get the base out to vote

This is not your every day election.

I am reminded of when Romney skittled away from his “47% I’ll never get.

Why didn’t he let it go and write them off? Because he is not in it for the American people. That brings all kinds of wimpiness, sneakiness and pandering. But he should have written them off

Trump has.

These people think voters are deciding now who to vote for? They think we’ll buy that?

No sale.

Trumps base needs his confidence. They know he has to get tough. We’re up against some bad people. They want to get rid of the constitution. The flag. Trumps base knows the gloves have to come off. Forget about it.

I watched Trump’s doctors give a briefing. I heard what I heard and that was that he was doing well. Immediately when the doctors were finished giving the update and taking questions the media “doctors” came out and said exactly the opposite of what the actual doctors said. That’s the media. Sometimes you look at say, there’s no way they would lie that much. They’ll always just lie around the edges but in fact they have no problem telling a bold faced lie with absolutely no evidence. I say that to say, the polls are lies. Is Trump going to win. I have no idea but I’m confident the media makes up statistics so they can talk to themselves and drive narratives.

I find it hard to believe that anyone doesn’t have their mind made up at this point. All these polls about “undecideds” being swayed one way or another is a load of BS.

In Arizona, when in a place that requires masks, I wear a Trump 2020 mask. I get a LOT of thumbs up and “Great mask” comments - from Hispanics.

Women were clearly turned off by Trump’s approach. Any of them within earshot seem eager to tell me that.

But Biden was no better. He called the President of the United States a clown and told him to shut-up.

So, ladies, there IS no polite and gallant candidate for you in this race. You’ll have to decide based on some other issue.

My opinion is that dumb, gullible white women are going to give this country away to the communists.

Have American women become so butch that they are afraid of strong men?

Only if the communists are “nice”, socially distance and wear a mask.

They've become so stupid that they form their political opinions based on The View.

True but they were never in his camp to begin with and the flash polls contradict this BS as to who won the debate. Dems are in major trouble all over the country and in swing states and are trying to salvage or stop the hemorrhaging. They always try to change the narrative when they lose.

It wasn’t middle aged white women who caused the house to change to democratic control it was Paul Ryan.

Trump is the worst debater I have seen on TV since I watched Nixon-Kennedy debates from the basement TV room in my Quadrangle dormitory at Univ Of Iowa. I was a new arrival from India enrolled in master’s degree program in engineering at U of Iowa and those debates got me hooked on American politics. GO HAWKEYES!

He is not a polished speaker like life long politicians who spend lots of time practicing speeches and debates in congress. Trump makes weird facial expressions during debates. Many of his sentences are incoherent to those who are not political junkies like myself.

To me only thing matters is Trump’s agenda and he is a rare president who actually follows up on his promises.
And even better, his actions help American workers and small businesses, instead of multi-national behemoth corporations.
