The man may have a point, but it would be better not to start with this kind of hyperbole. I mean no insult to the people who chose to live there, but some of us are not attracted by the vapid glitz of the tourist industry there.
Bars in Texas remain closed but if they put in a kitchen, they become restaurants and can reopen and we have a Republican governor.
So sad,, how a Democrat mayor destroyed a thriving economy.

Indeed. I am reading more and more about Texan’s growing disappointment with that governor. It appears his edicts are just as nonsensical regarding this issue as many democrat edicts.
Our domestic Dems have imported socialist voters by the millions, dangling all sorts of freebies as bait.
I do appreciate his enthusiasm for where he lives and his points are all good ones about the governor, but after three days in Las Vegas I’m like “get me out of here!” Showing my age, I know.
Never been there and have no desire to go.
I did have a friend, now deceased, that had a great love of Las Vegas that made several trips there every year.

I play allot of poker out in Vegas or maybe I should say used to play allot of poker. Over the last 40 years I’ve got to know many of the top players who live in Vegas. They’ve pretty much given up on Vegas ever coming back to it’s glory days. You can still find a game in the casino’s but you have to wear a mask and they have dividers and limited seating. The Governor and the Mayor have gutted not just Vegas but the entire state. The biggest game of the year the WSOP was cancelled, Binions poker room has been shut down (For poker players that was sacred ground). I don’t see me ever going back.

Considering that there are 50 states and governors in at least 10 are "incompetent, cowardly and insane with Trump Derangement", I would say the odds are more like 1 in 5.
It is amazing to me the amount Of criticism around here. I am sorry Wayne Allen Root started with hyperbole. But Iconic Las Vegas is the embodiment of America. It is big, bright, the best most over the top in the world. It shouldn’t exist because it’s in the middle of the desert, yet American ingenuity has converted a waste land into a world class resort.
It is synonymous with the best of the best. Entertainers have arrived eleven booked in Vegas. It allows for the idea that anyone can play hard
It is in the American West a place our American fathers tamed as ir was our manifest destiny. It is an American built oasis in the desert which draws the attention of literally the entire world
So as for the hyperbole...the saddest thing occurring here is the perpetual mission of people to criticize that which made America — well American. And just by saying no insult you add the word BUT which means ignore everything before that world. Then you go on to say some of us don’t like vapid tourist destination. Fine. We are aware id your objection. The real question is why do we care. Believe it or not someone erudite enough to write this critique is probably smart enough to know that some people don’t like Vegas
But you can’t celebrate Americana and Americans. There are probably things you like that are uniquely American that other people don’t. But freedom means allowing other people to enjoy or conduct their lives in liberty. Your statement is destructive to the unifying purpose of getting back to normal. However like many around here, you believe your opinion expressed which is insulting is helpful. It is not.
I would be nice if the contingent of freepers who need to criticize anything not aligned with them would just let some things go. People on Vegas are Americans and deserve our full throated defense from the tyranny of their governor in all areas: economic destruction, loss of medical choice, and individual liberty
