John Brennan escapes prosecution in John Durham investigation: Report
The Washington Examiner ^ | August 7, 2020 | Daniel Chaitin

Posted on 08/07/2020 9:15:19 PM PDT by romanesq

Print this article Former CIA Director John Brennan appears to have dodged prosecution in U.S. Attorney John Durham's criminal inquiry into the Russia investigation.

After NBC News reported Thursday that Brennan agreed to do an interview with Durham, signaling that his investigation is nearing its end, a lawyer familiar with the situation told NPR that the Obama-era CIA director has been told he is not a target of prosecutors. Instead, this source said, the interview will mainly consist of technical questions.

The news is sure to disappoint some of President Trump's most ardent supporters who believe Brennan and other top officials in the Obama administration sought to sabotage Trump's candidacy in 2016 and later his presidency.

Still, while Brennan may escape an indictment, he may yet be harshly criticized in a report. Attorney General William Barr said he expects "developments" from Durham's inquiry by the end of the summer.

“It’s hard to prove criminal intent at their level, and unless there’s a smoking gun, like an email or text, they’ll probably get off with a damning report about their activities," former Assistant FBI Director Chris Swecker, who claims to know Durham personally, told RealClearInvestigations in reference to Brennan and other top intelligence community and law enforcement officials from the Obama administration.

Durham has reportedly scrutinized Brennan's emails, call logs, and other records from the CIA as his team looked into the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment on Russian election interference, whether there was an effort to hide information from other agencies, British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s flawed anti-Trump dossier, and other issues.

Democrats, some Justice Department veterans, and legal experts have raised concerns about the public release of Durham's findings or indictments less than 90 days from the election. Under questioning last week by Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a Florida Democrat, Barr refused to commit under oath to not releasing a report before the November contest and pledged it would not "disrupt" the election.

Timing is also a mounting concern for the president's allies who fear the federal prosecutor's work will get buried should former Vice President Joe Biden defeat Trump.

Brennan, who has traded barbs with Trump over the past couple years, found out he had been blocked from accessing his classified notes and records while working on his forthcoming memoir.

Quite possibly, the journalistic equivalent of whistling past the graveyard.

Pray.

Brilliant. You want Barr to do this illegal like the Obama admin did. And I thought our goal was to restore the rule of law. You’re no better than the radical leftists that have destroyed the very concept of rule of law.

Where did I say that? Again. The GOP controlled Congress knew in 2017 (THREE years ago) that the FBI was lying to Congress about FISA. That is EXACTLY the “crime” Roger Stone was CHARGED, CONVICTED AND SENTENCED to.

The rule of law is in tatters now and it precisely because of the conduct of the “Trump” DOJ under Sleepy Sessions and now Bagpipes Barr. Holding out hope Durham & his staff of Democrat prosecutors will be any different is a fools errand. I wish it was different but it is what it is.

What you don’t “Trusty the Plan?” How can you not “Trust Sessions” & “Trust Wray?”

And wasn’t 2018 and the midterms just “glorious?”

What was the crime and sentence for the Bags?

“Those who follow The Letter were wrong once more.”

Is this the new code so you don’t get suspended here? I know all about that. ;)
Yes, the mysterious grifting letter is wrong. Now, we’re just laughing at how much.

Let’s see where Durham’s investigation lands. I’m told it doesn’t reach as high as McCabe which made me disappointed. I don’t know what you do with a rogue, treasonous CIA Director. My recommendation is to put him in a room with a pistol and leave.

But my taste suggests he doesn’t even deserve that.

“MikayesFiona has pointed out over and over again how difficult it is to prosecute the top echelon using current laws.”

Yes, I follow fi on Twitter. I love her and she’s mostly correct. She says it’s up to We, the people to have the laws changed and improved as the existing ones give too much wiggle room for these cretins who’ve been caught doing what they did.

Since I’m not intel law expert, I can only say she’s likely correct but there’s also a lack of will to turn the country upside down. Obama knew!

So what do you do with Barry? It just won’t happen.

“What was the crime and sentence for the Bags?”

Dunno. I think I read he was in quarantine or medical prison or something. Might of had a slight touch of the ‘rona. He is resilient. I think he is back now.

I like Bagster a lot. His quick wit is unparalleled on FR.

Thanks, Bagster

“Strange question. Mueller and his gang did not hold back from believing an investigation could take out a sitting president. Or adam schiff and his bunch of corrupt thugs believed their investigations could take out a sitting president.”

It really isn’t a strange question if you think about it, on many levels. What do you do with a rogue treasonous CIA Director who holds so many state secrets?

I don’t have an answer. I favor the “leave him in a room with a pistol” solution.

Unfortunately, the facts are on my side. Sunshine pumping and wishful thinking won’t change them.

Durham works for Barr. Barr was confirmed by the GOP Senate to be their CYA man. The GOP hate POTUS every bit as much as Democrats and the proof of that is their support of the ongoing coup against him.

I’ve never been one for d-bags.

“Trusty the Plan” no matter how dumb and many times wrong.

We don’t have much of the facts yet. We have a lot in the public domain but we don’t know the full picture of what transpired.

It’s definitely been an abuse of intel resources at home and abroad. All roads go through Italy.

a lawyer familiar with the situation told NPR that the Obama-era CIA director has been told he is not a target of prosecutors.

When reporters only use Google, Facebook and Twitter for sources, the word "familiar" has the reality value of a warm mouth full of spit.

They may not have enough evidence to go after Brennan, but I am convinced he was the Brains behind the whole Russia Hoax.

Wasn’t Trump told before his innauguration that he was not a target of the Russia Probe?

Then came Mueller and Schiff.

This article is meaningless.

Yeah, this is fake news.

Durham is doing an investigation. His investigation may lead to prosecutions, but it won’t be his team doing the prosecuting.

Therefore, if you asked someone on Durham’s team whether so-and-so is a “target of prosecutors“, the answer would be “no” regardless of who it was.

This leak is a nothing burger.

Just because an attorney says it doesn’t make it true. The attorney is trying to get rid of the media asking questions.
