Washington The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that it is illegal for an employer to fire someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, delivering a major victory in the fight for civil rights for LGBT people.
The court's 6-3 ruling extends the scope of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which bars discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin and religion, to include LGBT people. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Neil Gorsuch, who authored the majority's opinion, joined the liberal wing of the bench in ruling that "an employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender violates Title VII."

Major decision. Gorsuch and Roberts use faux textualism to achieve the result they desire. The usual four leftists join in the charade.
Once again rewriting laws to say things they do not say.
Does this now require employers to query employees about their sex lives in order to prove that they don’t discriminate?
This will help me out greatly as I have just decided I identify as a black lesbian.
The job offers will be pouring in.
As an old white guy it is quite difficult to land a job. But as a black lesbian they will not be able to discriminate against me.
How is LGBTXYZ even proven or determined? And how can someone move themselves in and out of this protected class strictly based on how they feel that day?
It’s time to recognize that the nation we grew up in is dead.
We will need to adapt to this new nation we’re in.
We need to revoke this rights act outright.
Its single handedly the cause of this circus were in now.
Okay to fire conservatives for voting for Republicans or voting to pass Prop 8 in California though. < /shakemyhead >
Well, if a queer or a dyke is a problem, put them to work reading a phonebook in a closet and require daily written reports.
Firing someone ONLY because of WHO they are without any valid business reason? Was that the case?
Gorsuch wrote the opinion. Every Republican president has appointed failed justices.
Yep. It’s particularly shameful of Gorsuch who cloaks his activism in textualism.
How utterly “odd” that every landmark homosexual edict from the court comes in gay pride month.
What’s more there are those who identify as “former gay” and “former lesbian”, since such “identity” is said to be fluid it doesn’t really exist as an identifying trait. It is behavioral, not genetic.
Now that you’ve given up, are you going to change your screen name?
This is something we might as well get used to. We will ALWAYS lose some people on our side. In this case, 2 of 5 people.
The ONLY way to deal with this is to give Trump another 4 years and HOPE he’ll get enough of the court under conservative rule, so crap like this doesn’t keep happening.
The OTHER option to throw up our hands and proclaim that THERE’S NO DIFFERENCE between our judges and their judges...thereby giving up and handing the keys of the country to the HARD LEFT - which, sadly, many here cannot seem to comprehend, so let me help a bit:
It is either us in charge, or them in charge, ruling over us. There is no ‘third way’, such as barricading ourselves in Idaho - they also have access to Google Maps, and they WILL find you...and they will force you and your children to be re-educated. So deal with it, like an adult, please, and DO NOT run away.
I guess Catholic schools will now be forced to employ teachers who openly thumb their noses at Catholic Church teachings.
May have to, we shall see.
The law has a religious institution exemption, for now. Expect Congress Critters to repeal that at some point.
