My DILs mother was in NYC the week between Christmas and returned home just before New Years. She became very sick within days, flu-like symptoms but tested negative for flu, it then became pneumonia but at the time the doctor said it was not classic pneumonia. She was very ill for a month and her doctor now says, he believes it was COVID.

Block off all of the roads and bridges
leading to and from place.
Stop all passenger flights from departing.
Stop all arriving flights from the city. Shut down the trains, buses. Only allow in food, medicine, and critical supplies.

I am really surprised that the hottest of hotspots weren’t on the west coast. There is huge travel from China to the west coast from Vancouver BC to LA and San Diego. It appears that New York got a different clade than the west coast and it seems the east coast strain was more infectious and more virulent.
